Subject: Very Frustrated
I took an extra hour for lunch today because I knew I would be working real late and I wanted to get a ride in. I haven't ridden since Dec 3 since I got in a wreck and got myself injured. Today was my third day back and it was very needed. 3/4 into my ride I discover that my back wheel is a little out of true. No big deal. I took it to the LBS (For those of you in the area it is the one in Palma Ciea on MacDill). I was in a hurry because it was 1:30 and I had a meeting soon. I was just going to drop off my wheel and pick it up later. First I walk in and the guy tells me I need to wait for the head mechanic. I ask why because all it needs is the wheel to be trued. Then I proceed to wait 13 minutes while the guy just sits in the back. Normally I wouldn't mind but I had something to do and there was no one in the shop but me and 4 employees. Then when I finally talked to him he told me that the wheel needed to be trued. I said okay I will stop by tonight to pick it up. He said it couldn't be done until Friday. I don't understand how it can take two and a half days to do something that should take 10 minutes max. I then snuck a peak in the shop and they only had 2 bikes hanging up. This place has made me mad before and this is the last straw. The only reason I went back this time is one of their mechanics used to be a pro cyclist and knows his stuff. It is one thing to not be knowledgable but another to be rude and not have good service. Why wouldn't I use an internet company if this is the kind of service I get. And I am a person who shops and eats almost exclusively at locally owned businesses. Any recs for a LBS in Tampa?

How frustrating!  I guess I have it good.  The guys at my LBS treat me really good and always go out of there way to accomdate my training schedule.  I heart my LBS!  Hearing your story make sme appreciate them even more!

I would take your bike somewhere else if they aren't going to give you good customer service.

that sucks.  yeah i drive my bike 20 minutes now to a bike shop instead of 2 because they localist of local places tried to F me big time over the summer.  basically they tried to charge me to fix something that they weren't even supposed to adjust in the first place.  go elsewhere.  i wish i could offer some suggestions, but i know tampa about as well as the back of my own hand.  no wait, thats not how the saying goes.  oh, you get the point.  i don't know anything about tampa.

Rich, Dud's is famous for crappy service. They just want to sell bikes, it seems.

Try Oliver's in New Tampa. I bought my Gary Fisher there several years ago and they were great. I've been back for merchandise and they've always been great.

Oh, Carrollwood Bicyle could probably fix you up in a jiffy, too. They've been pretty cool in my three visits there. They're on Dale Mabry between Fletcher and Ehrlich, on the right.

Thanks Renee. My dad lives out in Tampa Palms and since I got him back into cycling he always goes to Olivers and loves it. He bought me a Team Discovery Jersey there for Christmas. (I know that last sentence wasn't necessary, I just wanted to brag...That Jersey Rocks)

I thought this thread was going to be sexual in nature.  I guess a discussion about bikes is ok.

Man that really sucks, I bribe my LBS with cookies and bannana bread. They usually do stuff right on the spot unless it's extensive.

I know where your coming from. I had 2 great shops in New Orleans who treated us royally. Everything was sameday usually while you wait. I am trying to establish relationship with a shop here but its going slowly so far.
