Run
Comments: Started out just a hair faster than I would have liked, but it was a managable pace. I started at the back of the pack and slowly worked my way forward. It drizzled the night before so the roads were slick and I could feel my feet sliding as I ran, but once we got off the road and onto the running path it was much better. Heart rate was a little high but my pace was on target so I tried to keep pushing it. Hit the aid station just after the mile 2 marker and really needed the fluids. Nearly slipped and fell at the turn around, but after that I passed a few people, got a drink and was set the rest of the way. My stomach started to bother me around mile 3 but I ignored it and kept up the pace. I was running a positive split but only be a few seconds each mile. By mile 4 the quesy feeling was gone and I was in the home stretch. Passed 2 younger kids near the end and had a good final 1/4 mile sprint to the finish. Overall results are out of the men, not the whole field. What would you do differently?: I could have started a bit slower, but I held my pace pretty well and I'm happy with that. Post race
Warm down: Had a glass of water and two glasses of gatorade. Walked back to the Jeep to throw my flag and HRM inside and waited for the awards. What limited your ability to perform faster: Lack of proper rest. Event comments: Not exactly a great race, but it's the only game in town on New Year's morning. I'll be back. Woke up, ate a whole wheat bagel with peanut butter and some fruit, showered, got dressed and headed out. Showed up extra early which gave me time to register and take a quick power-nap in the Jeep.
My hamstrings felt a little tighter than usual so I made sure to stretch extra well.
