i did it the first year it ran. tough, hilly, windy bike course, but a lot of fun. they've changed the run since then too...made it much easier, and hopefully more shaded. it was smoking hot when i raced it, 35C and no shade.

 from what i hear the organization has gotten much better, they were lacking a couple years ago. it should be an absolute blast! train hard! have fun!!! :D

I've since spoken to a local guy who did it when it was raining and very cold. Typical, unpredictable Alberta weather. He's done IMC a couple of times but he mentioned the hills on this bike course too.

Edit: He also said there were a lot of flat tires and cautioned me to avoid the rough shoulders especially through the first 10k.

I've signed up as well. My first 1/2 IM. Should be good....also in the Woody's RV Half Marathon to test my training up to the end of May. See you out there.

Since I'll be moving to Saskatoon shortly and was training for Steehead 70.3, I'm going to give Sylvan Lake a shot.

Is this a well organized race? Good voluneteers/support?

It will be my first time there but I've heard that Sylvan Lake is well organized. Another HIM race that may work for you too is the 'Great White North' triathlon near Edmonton a couple of weeks before Sylvan. Here's a link to each of their site's:

Anyone know where I can track down a profile of the bike course....I keep hearing it's hilly, but would like a better idea of just how hilly! I do most of my training rides on 22X (From Bridlewood out towards Bragg Creek and back)...would it be comparable?

I'm planning on Sylvan Lake in 2009. It'll be my first HIM. Our family watched it last summer from the beach, and I'm convinced it's the once to do - looks like a great spectator course.
