Captains,

We have a scoring issue, the outcome of which will determine if a team wins or loses. I am seeking your input on the issue. I'm not seeking votes, but opinions. As Renee for this challenge, the final decision rests with me.

Here are the facts of the situation:
- A challenge participants goal as reported to me and stated in the forum was measured in Meters
- The challenge participant logged their swim distances in Meters.
- Monthly swim totals in the training logs display in Yards regardless of the unit logged.
- The logs clearly state the total is in Yards
- The challenge participant swam enough in yards to meet their goal, however in meters, they missed their goal.

It appears that the challenge participant was looking at the number on the left hand side of the training log and assuming that the number displayed was in meters. The question at hand: is the final score to be determined by the intentions and beliefs of the challenge participant or the actual behavior of the challenge participant?

This thread will remain open for your thoughts until 22:00 UTC (5pm Eastern). Should you prefer to send them to me personally that is acceptable.

This is not an open debate. It is for team captains only. If you are not a team captain and simply have to let your opinion be known, go clean your bike. Do not post to this thread. I'll delete it and change your rank to 'minnow' for the month of February.

The technical issue of the units reported in the monthly totals in the training logs will be reported to the programmer.

Did the user not know where to change their training setting from yards to meters and hence they swam 10,000 meters but logged it as 10,000 yards? (Just using 10,000 as an example)?

i.e. Their goal was 10,000 meters. Over the course of the month they swam 400 laps of a 25 meter pool and put 10,000 in their log not realizing their personal training setting was set to yards and not meters?

If that is the case I'd let them off. They swam the distance and just needed some guidance as to where to change this default setting (Control panel, Edit Your Training Settings, On the left is Defaults and Settings - set Swim to Meters - Scroll to bottom of page and click on Apply).

Those are my thoughts.

Maybe I am not as understanding but if someone stated “x” meters or yards as a goal and didn’t meet the amount, then he/she didn't meet the goal.  Also, regardless of the user default preferences, the number next to the total monthly amount has either “yd” or “m” which is an indication of the actual volume…

I would tend to say you made it or you didn't. I would also tend to not let things get too heated over the deal (this isn't life or death). If the person really didn't understand the different logging methods (yds and meters) I'd probably give them the benefit of the doubt - with an axteris.

I've heard from most captains and have made my decision. Thank you all for your patience.

Will some people have to change their "Winners" Avatars?

The results will be posted shortly...
