Pre-race routine:

Try very hard not to go back to sleep in the car. Light stretching. Banana, yogurt smoothie and some coffee 2 hours prior. Hammer gel 10 min prior.
Event warmup:

Light stretching.
Run
  • 2h 58m 48s
  • 13.1 miles
  • 13m 39s  min/mile
Comments:

Felt pretty good on the run. Minor ankle pain and sore quads at about mile 10. Low energy about mile 11.
What would you do differently?:

Train for longer distance than actual race day run.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around for a while, light stretching. Recoverite. Walked around lame-ass post race 'party' for a few minutes. Cheered other marathon finishers while waiting for Rob. That was fun!

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Just need to stick with training and drop a few more pounds.

Event comments:

Nice to hear that people from 50 states raced today. Enjoyed running in areas that normally can't run due to traffic. Proud to have finished and even prouder of hubby for running the full marathon.

Course: Start and end outside Superdome. Through French Quater down Esplanade near City Park, back down Jeff Davis to Banks to finish. Kind of interesting to see along the way a few markers indicating the water level in those areas during Katrina. Somewhat difficult to see all the blighted property along the way, but certain spots - like the fun people at Bayou St. John kept the mood light. They were giving out donuts and beer.

Congratulations, Joann!!!  YOU DID IT!!!!!!!!

I was thrilled to meet you and Rob!  I'm sorry we didn't have more time to chat.  Maybe we can have another BT get together before the Crescent City Classic!  Hope you're feeling good today!
