Swim
Comments: I swam comfortably. I got into a groove and stuck with it. Navigation was no issue but I couldn't find anyone that was the same pace as me so drafting wasn't to be. I caught some of the guys in the wave before me just as I was caught by the wave behind! What would you do differently?: I've posted a 2sec/100m improvement over last race. Without a doubt there's a lot more work to be done! Actually going to swimming training would help. I would hope to go closer to the 2min/100m mark in the next race. Transition 1
Comments: It all went horribly wrong as I jumped on the bike. Somehow my left shoe came off as I'd taken my first few peddles so I had to go back down the hill a little to get my shoe, ended up having to waste a whole lot of time while I put my bike down to put my left shoe on. Nightmare!! Fine once I had my shoes but aghh how frustrating. Just one of those things I guess. Not entirely sure how it all fell to pieces. Nevermind, these things happen & I didn't let it shake me for the ride. Incidentally this was actually included in my bike time. But I wanted to explain the 'Bad' getting into shoes thing. Cat Place: 10 What would you do differently?: All in all the transition time is fine. Would still like to see it closer to 1:30. Bike
Comments: The bike was tough with undulating hills and wind. I spent a bit of time in struggle town. It seemed that I just can't stick with a group which makes it harder because you have no one to push against or with. I did find someone to keep me company for a small while, but she was too strong on the flats for me. At about the 20 minute mark I took a vanilla gu (was almost ill) but I felt as though I picked up after that. We turned out of the wind and I was able to get to speeds of 47.5km/hr instead of the 22km/hr pushing into wind riding up hills! What would you do differently?: Last race I averaged 27.73km/hr. I gotta spend more time on the bike. Its as simple as that. I should also be doing some more brick action so I know how hard I can push on the bike and know that I still have it in me to run. More laps of the lake in the wind to emulate race conditions. Transition 2
Comments: Again this could be quicker. I didn't do the swing the leg thing over due to lack of confidence. Cat place: 16 What would you do differently?: Transition training is on the cards Run
Comments: Sadly this is actually a decent pace for me! I think its almost 15sec/km faster than last race. I felt alright on the run & had plenty of support from TriBal competitors until the last 2km where it was pretty much just me & a few others. Very lonely. Still negative thoughts did not enter my mind and I felt as though I ran strongly - for me anyway! What would you do differently?: Just keep running. Some hill training would have helped. Post race
Warm down: Oh Gatorade. Lots of it. Christine, Rich and I stood in the water for a good 15min after I'd finished. It felt a lot colder than when we first went in! Hopefully this will assist in recovery. What limited your ability to perform faster: I'm never sure how much is going to be left in the tank, so I never push in the swim or on the bike, I'm always saving myself for the run. I think next race I will try to go hard in the swim and see what happens. Event comments: This is a tough course, its windy & hilly & longer than I've ever gone before. It's definitely humbling to come close to last in my category, that said I'm not going to badly with my transitions! However this lack of form gives me more incentive to train. I NEED to get into the pool and I NEED to get on the bike for some longer rides and I'll just keep on keeping on with the run. All that said I did enjoy racing today, I got lots of encouragement on the run which I appreciate & hey, I had a crack. Someone has to come 3rd last right?? Last updated: 2006-02-04 12:00 AM

Didn't have the best night's sleep camping, but then there's nothing unusual about that. Hopefully by next year I will have invested in a large blowup mattress for decent sleep's sake. Heard Kris get up for the mini tri and got up not long after he'd gone down. Dressed, packed up a little, managed to get a banana and half a museli slice down. Super nervous. Rode to transition area.
Did a couple of rides up the hill out of transition to make sure that the bike was in the right gear for going up hills. Once set up, headed down to the water for warm up with Rich & Christine, caught up with a couple of other girls from TriBal. Water wasn't too cool.
