Pre-race routine:

Little different than normal since it was an afternoon race. I ate a light lunch at 11:00am power bar and some fruit with a propel, then off to the race and normally I have a hammer gel in water but forgot it in the fridge at home as my brother-in-law called to come along at the last minute, so that was a little downer but i had a little water about 45min. before and then waited in car to keep warm
Event warmup:

light stretching then a 2 mile jog around course with brother-in-law then about 10 to 15 minutes of stretching. Then at the start line jumping around to try and stay warm as the snow flew.

Comments:

Felt really good because I exceeded my goal and didn't think I could run that fast this early in the season since my main training has been endurance and base. Took off with my brother-in-law who is a great runner and he said he would pace me to a 6 minute pace and i'll try and follow him so that is what we did but the first mile at 5:47 with the hill in it was maybe a little fast but I wanted to feel like i give it my all by the end so i knew where i was at speed wise to train from there. The temp was a little chilly but not much wind as it was blocked by the trees in the park so we warmed up quickly. The snow coming down made it seem kind of cool too to run in that atmosphere.
What would you do differently?:

Remember my hammer gel and water don't know if it would have made a difference but that's what i always do so it was kindof a mental thing not having it
Post race
Warm down:

Jog about a half mile back to find other friends running and ran in with them and did a little streching.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I don't think hardly anything other than I didn't know where my speed was at so mentally i didn't think i could run that fast. Now I know and can work from there.

Event comments:

I will probably always come back to this race every year because of the timing it lets you know where you are speed and conditioning of winter months.
