Minneapolis/St. Paul, Minnesota
United States
Unniversity of Minnesota
Total Time = 1h 30m
Overall Rank = 22/78
Age Group = 18-24
Age Group Rank = 10/20
Pre-race routine:

Slept in until 9am, had a bagel with peanut butter for breakfast, an apple and kashi bar for snack. Drove to the U for the race, checked in, got dressed...got my number - as you can see below (609).
Event warmup:

Met the other BTers and took some pics. Quick rinse in the shower and then waited in the bleachers for my lane to open up.
Swim
  • 30m
  • 1375 yards
  • 02m 11s / 100 yards
Comments:

Started out a little fast, the guy next to me was one of the fastest fish I've seen. Wow...my goal was just to keep going at a steady pace, and then I picked it up for the last 5 min. Today was my fastest lap pace ever. Awesome!
What would you do differently?:

Swim faster.
Transition 1
  • 10m
Comments:

Standard 10min. transition between each event
What would you do differently?:

Figure out somehow to get my sports bra on more quickly! I couldn't believe how quickly the 10 minutes went!
Bike
  • 30m
  • 7.52 miles
  • 15.04 mile/hr
Comments:

A little rushed getting on the bike - only had about 30 sec. Brought a bagel snack just in case I needed it - had a few bites of it. Stayed at resistance level 2 the entire race and upped the pace for the last 5 min.
What would you do differently?:

Go at a faster pace the entire 30 min. I was hoping to get farther than I did, but overall it was good.
Transition 2
  • 10m
Comments:

It was nice to have 10 min between the bike and run to get myself cooled off a bit. I stretched and chatted with my fellow BTers!
Run
  • 30m
  • 3.14 miles
  • 09m 33s  min/mile
Comments:

I started off at 6.0mph, bumped it to 6.2 at 5min, and then 6.3mph for the next 15min. At the 25min mark I increased the speed and ended up at 8.0mph. So I should have ran faster the entire time.
What would you do differently?:

Run at a faster pace the entire 30 min. Practice running on a Woodway treadmill prior to this race.
Post race
Warm down:

Had to get off the treadmill right away so the next heat could get on. Stumbled down the stairs, walked a bit and stretched. Took a shower and then headed upstairs to find my fellow BTers.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Training. I just started training in August, so I have a long way to go. I did really well for my first triathlon!

Event comments:

Wow. What a way to start off my triathlon career. My total distance was 11.49. The goodie bag was awesome! A very nice Tri-U-Mah duffle bag wtih a frisbee, t-shirt with "Tri-U-Mah" on it, pizza cutter, travel mug, lip balm, pens. It was great to meet up with fellow BTers, putting some faces with names. We had lunch together at Annie's - burgers and...a malt. It was very good!

Way to go! I imagine these indoor tris are a wee bit tough on the brain - indoor biking is a killer mental battle for me!  Good work!
