Pre-race routine:

Ate two waffles and drank some tea. Tried to stay dry and warm. At the packet pick up they couldn't find my race number even though I was on the list. .... they decided to give me a number and had me fill out the part that you tear off ...then they tore it off and promised to get me in. Please remember this because it plays a part later on.
Event warmup:

No warm up..just stretching.

Comments:

It was a dreary day.... wet and overcast...but the temp was only 49 which is just about perfect running temp for me. I decided during the first mile to attempt a PR. Originally it was going to just be a training day. I figured with my Garmin I could pace properly. It worked. After the intial shake out of the group I was hardly passed by anyone and passed people through out the race. I even had a duel with a few people at the end and managed to yo-yo a win out them.... Made the last half mile fun.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing. I was worried that my Garmin wouldn register with the overcast weather so I decided to wear the HR monitor so if it didn't work I would have SOME data. I am SOOOOOO GLAD I wore it now. More on this at the end.
Post race
Warm down:

No warm down...just walked around and eventually ate some Jambalaya.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Nothing. This was a PR for me

Event comments:

Well here is my beef..although I am not as mad about it now as I was immediately after the race. When the race people couldn't find my number they gave me a new number and tore off my info tag at the bottom. This was about an hour pre-race. Well when I finished the race, after PR'ing the distance, I had no info-number-tag to tear off and give to the ladies collecting them.

They told me that I was out of luck and it would not be recorded. I got pissed. I was a gentleman about it but after talking to 4 or 5 people about what happend I decided to give up. I wrote down the time on the clock (which was 20 seconds slower than my Garmin time) and turned it in. We shall see if I am ever given credit for this PR in a 10k.

I was behind Debbie Ellington in the chute where they were collecting the tags so when the results come out I will see if that matches up.

So I had to give them a "NO" in the organized part of the evaluation.

I could tell they understood and were sorry for the mishap. But I am still not going down in the anals of Mambo history now :(

How much did you break PR by? If it makes you feel any better my best 5K and duathlon are not on the net anywhere.

Great race! So much for the training run. Sorry about the hassle with the race number, that sucks. I have never worn the Garmin in a race but you convinced me to.

Well my previous recorded record was 53:13 for a 6.12 mile run.

But that was last Oct 23. I will be removing that one from my PR list and adding this one.

I am really glad I wore the Garmin or I wouldn't have had any recorded time.... I do want to point out that my HR for this race is about what I train at..... I may be going to hard in training....

Congrats on the PR, bummer on the goof-up. Hope you show up in the official time.

When I ran Mardi Gras Marathon in 2003, it was my first after a year layoff due to plantar fasciitis. Of course I make the rookie mistake of forgetting to wear my chip, then go out and run a PR time by over fourteen minutes! There remains no "official" record of me ever running the race, but that doesn't stop me from counting it!

I did come back and PR (by another 7 minutes) in Austin a year later, but that MG remains #2.

Great job on the PR! Don't let the lack of organization on the race's part take away from the fact that you ran great!
