Anyone know how long it takes to know if you've got food poisoning? A flatmate of mine gave me her leftover turkey stirfry strips, and I just ate them, but they'd been in the fridge for a few days...in the interests of thrift and hunger, I ate them (with veg, balti sauce and basmati...mmm) but it tasted a bit.."off". I'm terrified i'm going to be down for the count. So how long till you know you're going to be spending a lot of time riding the porceline pony?

Usually within a few hours you may feel off, but if you are going to get really sick, it should happen within 24 hours.

I should add that I am no medical expert. Just experience talking.

Oh, and I hope you don't have a problem. FP sucks.

As a very recent expert in the charming art of having food poisoning, I researched it in the odd intervals in which I was able to stay awake...

most types will hit you either in 2-6 or 12-24 hours... hope you don't get hit!

Only a few days in the fridge?  You should be OK but we'll hope for you nonetheless.  Start hammering the H2O now so that you don't get dehydrated in the event that you do start on the technicolor yawn or, as they say on the competitive eating circuit, have urges contrary to swallowing. Foot in mouth

A few days is nothing. I eat stuff from my fridge upto ~7-8 days. Then I start to get worried.

True food poisoning (like from E. coli or Salmonella) will take about 24 hours to develop.  It takes awhile for all the bacteria to make the toxins that make you sick.

As far as the tasting "off", maybe they picked up a weird taste from being in the fridge.  Something else in the fridge could have altered the flavor.

Took about 24 hrs for the symptoms to manifest last time I had FP. (Probably from the eggs I had for the bfast the day before). Took me a day to recover. I want to say that you will be OK as long as the turkey hasn't been taken out of the fridge since your roommate first put them in there.

HIJACK ALERT: Speaking of toxin, I heard that some people would not eat *cooked* meat that is not freshly prepared because they claim that the meat would release toxin once its cooked. Has anybody heard that theory before?

*bumping old thread*
Actually, it's less than 24 hours. My sister who is a microbiologist, said it can take a little as 8 hours. And you can't really tell if something is spoiled by its smell or taste, especially food is is heavily seasoned. Anyhoo. I was out sick yesterday due to FP. Started having heartburn-like symptoms by 7pm, then things got really serious by around 2-3am. Started having chills and such. Once again, Tylenol Cold (syrup form) saved the day because I threw up once I had some. The next day was crap cus' I was dead tired and couldn't sit up straight most of the time. I got a big red sqaure on the training log.

First of all, don't make yourself sick by trying to feel sick and depict every little twist and turn  your stomach makes.  If you are going to get food poisioning, its going to happen around the 24hr mark.
