What are you talking about? I don't look scary now.
This is how I used to look when I was playing ball.
The Good thing is Jenelle doesn't look like this with the shaved head.

My mom is a cancer survivor. My father is not. But while my mom went through chemotherapy she visited a friend. She walked downstairs and her head was bald. Another lady was downstairs and said to her friend a little too loud, "why did that woman cut off all her hair?" My mom butted in and said, "because I have cancer.... that's why."

As you can imagine, it became quite awkward. But she got her point across.

even though I have a decent amount of hair, people still mistake me for a guy at times. Ok, let's review: hair dyed red, feminine glasses, makeup, and lipgloss, BOOBS!, hips...WTF? Now, in my running gear, I can understand...tights, shirt, fleece, and usually a bandana over my hair, but still! The boobs should be a dead giveaway!

people here in ireland always say stuff to me like, "wow, you're big for a girl!". Despite the fact that i'm 5'10 and about 167...perfectly acceptable. But women here are all really small. I'm a size 12 in the states, which is a perfectly normal size, but here that makes me near "large and lovely" shop size. It can be a blow to the ego.

The short hair, you might find, will "age" you. I get mistake for 25+ on many an occasion. I've had to produce my ID to people to show them that I'm not even 21 yet! I dunno what Ive got to do to look 20, but if anyone's got any ideas, help a sister out.

I stay away from Subway. Instead, I go to Quiznos where no one speaks English. So, when I order, I request, "No mayonaise." To which the clerk replies, "Noooo? (insert blank look), "uh, noooo.... (as they're scanning the register for a key to punch), noooo....."

NO MAYO!!! You know, that nasty stuff you slop all over your food in this place....

Hats off to you Janelle, I have a hard time getting a regular haircut. I couldn't imagine taking it all off.

I avoid Quiznos. The first time I went there I didn’t want my sub toasted and when I asked them, the response was “no toasting? That’s what we do at Quiznos. Why didn’t you go to subway if you wanted it untoasted?” Now **that** is customer service. Granted Quiznos where new and subway didn’t toast and they all thought they were so cool….. Cool without my dime.

phoenixazul - 2006-03-04 4:41 PM  I've had to produce my ID to people to show them that I'm not even 21 yet!

You're only 20?  You do look right around 23 or 24 in your picture.

it's not a bad thing. Really. Why do you want to look 20? You look really good as is. You don't look old, you look like a mature, put together young woman, which is much sexier a look then looking 20.

That's ok phoenixazul- I had a coworker tell me I look more professional and sophisticated without my long hair and yes- older.  AND...the best part yet.  I don't appear to be a young ditzy girl walking around.  I was like "uh, thanks.  Is that supposed to be a compliment?"  I'm not ditzy even though I had blonde highlights.

I bet you come across somewhat intimidating to those who don't know you! And what are you doing lunching in Subway, what happened to Chipotle!

We don't have a Chiptole here- just Barberito's.  Subway was close to the bike shop and I had to lunch somewhere convenient that day.  I don't think I'll be going back to Subway anytime soon

I went to the post office Saturday after I ran and thought for sure people would think I was a boy.  I had on a purple zip up dry fit shirt and black running shorts.  The guy at the post office said "can i help you ma'am?"  I was so relieved.  So if the guy at the post office could tell I was female in my workout clothes- no lipstick, no pink shirt, earrings, or purse but the chick at Subway couldn't tell when it was obvious then she's just not with it.

BUT in her defense you do have to admit that if she looked up and just looked at your bald head the STRONG visual cue is "guy." Samething for guys that grow long hair (when i had long blonde hair in HS i was mistaken for a girl a coupla times).
