Taking the big step of getting started. I have a long road ahead of me, but I look forward to the challenge. I would appreciate any tips or "I wish I would have....."s. I hope to be as successful as many of you have been.

We are mostly all beginners here so you are in august company. I have not even done a tri yet; my first is tomorow morning. First, do a self assessment and figure out if you are ready to begin training; consult your doctor before starting anything...that is a must. Then, get all the information you can on triathlons, types of triathlons you would be suited for, which training would be best for you. Go to the home page for a training plan and begin slowly. Figure out the minimum of equipment you will need and start to gather it all up. The most expensive piece of equipment is the bike but you needn't start with a $15K Pinarello Montello, your present mtb or road bike will do fine. Keep reading and postion on this forum and ask any question that pops to mind no matter how trivial.

Welcome to BT.

Read, read, read. There is plenty of info out there regarding triathlons including this site. Then when you have any specific questions ask away. There are plenty of people here who will help.
I know, I have been one of the helpees.

At this point I am moderately active and could stand to drop a few lbs. I know that is my starting point. The end of 2002, I was regularly running and working out, going through some work related training, but in the year and a half that has dropped off. During that time I put on a bit of weight. But I am slowly getting back into it. And I really need help in the pool, but my wife is a former college swimmer and swim instructor, so she should help there. Like I said just getting started and discovery this challenging sport.
