It was awesome, but go looking to spend a pretty penny.  I spent more there than I did at The Olive in the Bellagio.

I took a cooking lesson from one of the chef's at Melting Pot way back in the late 80s. My fondue is excellent!

We have a place here like that....North Country Steakhouse.  Never understood the appeal of it myself, but people love it.  I don't cook at home, I sure as HELL am not cooking when I go out!

I've been to both the Melting Pot and the cook your own sort of steakhouse places (one called Prime Quarter in Milwaukee, WI).  I enjoy them, but you do really have to be in the right kind of mood to cook your own food.  Sometimes I want to.  Sometimes I just want to go and have my food cooked.  I think the appeal is that you can get a group of people together and get some beers and stand around the grill and cook steaks.  It's like standing around a grill at someone's house when that's not possible.

over disinfecting will make your immune system weak.. so that's only in public places.. and i don't use anti bacterial soap except for at work.. don't want those little buggers to get super resistant..

Amen to that!!!  Too much antibacterial stuff everywhere is driving me crazy lately!

on a sorta similiar note- there's places where you can go and prepare a month or so's worth of food, depending on how big the fam is and how much you eat.  The store buys all food and containers, you get lessons and do the prep work, and take the food home and stuff it in your freezer.

costa about a 100 bucks or so.

Total OT. Every time I see Milwaukee, I would recall the scene from Wayne's World in which Alice Cooper carefully explained to us the original of Milwaukee and the fact that it used to be called "Mi-li-wau-kay".

Now back to the scheduled programmed of restaurants that charge you extra so that you can cook yourself.

In Korea it was common for raw food to be brought to the table, and we cooked it right there in front of us on a burner.  Of course, I don't recall having the option of a NY steak while in Korea.

Wisconsin loves this sort of thing...so does chicago (both places I've spent a significant amount of time.) I never understood the draw. Similarly, I don't understand why my girlfriend orders fajitas at mexican restaurants all the time...she's agreeing to pay someone to bring her the ingredients of a meal which she can then put together...make sense?

Hey, McFuzz. Do you do the Effingham Tri? I just bust out laughing when I saw Effingham had a Tri. My goodexhusband is from Sullivan, so I'm somewhat familiar with the area.



Didn't know about one in U-C, we are a little more centrally located in Illinois (Peoria).

Effingham is a metropolis compared to Elmwood (where I did my first tri). Thought about doing my HIM in Effingham, but 20 weeks prior to 6/18 put me riding outside in the snow too much.

Mmm.  I love the melting pot.  No needing to be in the mood to cook my food for me.  I'll always willing to go there.  It is a little too pricy and caloric to frequently go as much as I'd like.
