Total Time = 1h 02m 25s
Overall Rank = 13/260
Age Group = Men's 20-24
Age Group Rank = 1/
Pre-race routine:

Woke up early. Had raisin bran and a cup of juice for breakfast. Arrived at the race 1.5 hours early. Met a bunch of UT BTers
Event warmup:

Just 200m in the pool. No jogging or cycling.
Swim
  • 05m 11s
  • 300 meters
  • 01m 44s / 100 meters
Comments:

I felt pretty strong. Passed like 6-7 people. It was really obnoxious though because some people were pretty rude about letting me pass.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing, just pass harder, maybe kick the last dude that I passed. He was a real prick.
Transition 1
  • 02m 17s
Comments:

Umm... kind of a poor start to the bike. I really didn't know what to do though. I think that I could have gone faster.
What would you do differently?:

Not much. I just would have made sure that I went much faster.
Bike
  • 33m 16s
  • 11.5 miles
  • 20.74 mile/hr
Comments:

I really nailed the second loop. Other than the hills at the first part of the course, the second loop was a lot stronger than the first. I passed over 20 people on the ride. It was great picking people off like that! I shocked myself.
What would you do differently?:

Not too much. More liquids and I need to handle turns better.
Transition 2
  • 01m 16s
Comments:

I NEED YANKZ!!! I think that T2 went reasonably well.
What would you do differently?:

Get some Yankz and make sure that I take a quick shot of water or something before taking off
Run
  • 20m 23s
  • 3 miles
  • 06m 47s  min/mile
Comments:

The T2 and run times are estimates, but they're pretty accurate according to my watch. I walked through the first water station because I had sideaches on both sides. Umm... I think that I did resonably well. I felt like I was going a lot slower than I really was. I guess I did pretty well on the run. I worked hard on the downhill so that I could pick up time there.
What would you do differently?:

I think that I would have tried to grind out that backside a little better and pushed through the whole thing. The hill was killer.
Post race
Warm down:

Didn't have much time to warm down. Jogged a little, stretched a little.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Not much rest this past week. I have been very busy because of school, so I have had late nights and early mornings for a few weeks.

Event comments:

I did it! Did my first triathlon, and won my age group in the process, fancy that!?! I really liked the race. I think part of that could be attributed to meeting a bunch of studs from BT, but I really like how everything was run. I look forward to doing it again next year!

Hey, nice race!  Passing/getting passed in the pool is stinky.  Yay yankz!

Hey, that was a great tri for anyone, let alone a 1st timer!

Don't sweat the transition stuff. My first few transitions last year were pitiful. You can lose a lot of time in transition over other top competitors if you're not careful!

Keep it up through the season. Your run times are killer! Maybe we'll have to run together sometime so you can push me a bit harder

Oh, and it was great to finally meet you in person. And don't forget to post those race photos!

Edit:

I forgot a couple of things:

1. You actually finished 11th overall, not 13th. The 2 relay teams that beat you don't count...
2. You can send your name, place and address to [email protected], and they will mail your medal & perhaps some swag.
