Comments: Felt great at the start. Missed the first mile marker, but my 2 mile split was 17 min. HR was higher that I wanted, so I basically ignored it and went of PE figuring I was just a little wound up for the race. The first 5 miles went by really quick, 6 & 7 were fine, but I struggled through miles 9-11. HR and PE were both high for the pace I was keeping. Tried to pick up the pace a little, but just couldn't muster up the strength. It was awesome to see my parents at about mile 9 which woke me up a little. Coming down the home stretch I look up and Glen has run back out to meet me and run the last mile with me. (He had finished the race and run back over a VERY steep bridge that's at about mile 12, then ran with me all the way back in - now that's a good friend!) It was a great way to finish my first half marathon. What would you do differently?: After further thought and a little discussion with my neighbor who's a 3 hr. marathoner, I think I may have peaked last weekend when I did a practice duathlon. Even though I tapered, I didn't feel like I had really fresh legs and I couldn't hold the pace that I kept on some of my longer training runs. Altogether, I'll say that I got out of it what I put into it, though. I can count on one hand how much speed work I did, and I missed at least 2 long training runs due to problems with my hip flexors. Post race
Warm down: Drank water, stretched, and talked with parents, Glen, Todd, and Jeremy. Ate a banana. What limited your ability to perform faster: Training. Event comments: Really dissapointed with the mile markers being so far off. Not sure how that's even possible for a race that's a Boston qualifier. Other than that, it was well organized, and I really enjoyed having a few beers with Glen at the post-race party. I had a great time, and it was awesome to finish my first half marathon and be there for Glenn winning his age group! Last updated: 2006-03-03 12:00 AM

Woke up at 4:45am. Ate half ww bagel, egg beaters, couple bites of polenta, and 2 aussie bits (basically oatmeal cookies). Showered. The drawstring on my shorts pulled through a little and I can't wear that pair without tieing them so I had to cut the waistband a little to get my fingers on the string. By the time I got done fussing with that, it was time to go. Got to the start 1 hr. early.
5 min. running and a little stretching. Basically just stood around and talked with Glenn and my parents.
