What would you do differently?:

I got disqualified in the 200 breast for breaking all the rules. I learned from my mistakes and did NOT get DQ'd in the 50 breast.

Course: I swam two relays freestyle, 200 breast and 50 breast. No word yet on times or results, but since this was my first swim meet ever it was a big deal just to compete. I was also signed up to race butterfly and IM, but those events were later in the day and my DH and son were getting restless. All that starting off blocks was a little wild, and boy am I tired. I'm calling the distance 1000m because that's about how much I swam, although the races were a lot shorter.

I'm swimming at master's nationals (since it's 3 miles from my house)...and I'm nervous as hell about going off the blocks and getting DQ'd...this will be my first swim meet in 20 years!  but you lived to tell your story, so I guess I will too

Carrie, very cool!!! Sorry to hear about the DQ; breaststroke events were always the anxiety-producing events due to the zealous DQ judges. Your comment about block starts made me giggle. Bummer you didn't get to swim the butterfly and IM!

Nobody even told me about touching the wall! I did flip turns as usual. I apparently also used a scissor kick at some point, and swam too far underwater. The DQ lady was kind of a ***** - or maybe it just seemed that way to me.

opps. ....fly and breast you use open turns with a two hand touch at the wall....only backstroke and free you use flip turns.

Remember how Aidan went through periods where all he wanted to do was hang around the house in his underwear eating KFC and Carrie wanted to go out and party? I think we're having one of those episodes.
