Comments: First band was Sunshone Still. Guitar, Bass, drums, singer. Guitarist was good...lots of feednack and sustain made for a very trippy sound. The band, however, blew. Played 8 songs, all of them sounded the same. And these gus were slooooow. Their songs were slow and their transitions were slower. I swear they retuned after every freaking song. The singer commented that they just released their first CD and it took them 5 years to record it. I believe it, cause it took them three weeks just to play one song. What would you do differently?: Come later, miss opener. Transition 1
Comments: Went to the bar, got another Yuengling. Mmmmmm...Yuengling! What would you do differently?: Get two Yuenglings. Bike
Comments: Second act was Danielle Howle. This is why it's fun to travel to see shows. Danielle's a local (to Columbia) singer-songwriter that has a definitel Arlo Guthrie quality to her. She's a little countrified, but has a definite edge. She sang and played accoustic guitar and even did two songs a capella. In between songs, she talked to the crowd in a very sing-songy manner, and told stories. Very engaging. The crowd sucked, however, and mostly ignored her. People talking during shows suck. Plain and simple. We talked to her for a while after her set, and it turns out she's going to be in Augusta at Stillwater (Katies's bar) in June. What would you do differently?: Tell the crowd to shut the f*ck up and listen. Transition 2
Comments: Got another Yuengling (mmm....Yuengling!). What would you do differently?: Get two Yuenglings. Run
Comments: The Avett Brothers! This was a good, but not great Avett's show. They had a bunch of technical issues--they always seem to have a bunch of technical issues--but Scott seemed unusually perturbed by them. Still, they had lots of energy and performed really well. It sounded like the same set they played in Augusta in February, which is just fine. I wish they had a piano so they could play "Colorshow," but it's hard I guess to travel with one in a Ford F-350. The crowd was I guess a typical college-town crowd. Super-enthusiastic, but a little annoying (esp. when everyone's shouting lyrics). But what can you do...it's good to see these kids out on a Thursday night for what is for all intents and purposes a bluegrass band. Good stuff. Post race
Warm down: Tried to get a Yuengling, but they were out. Coor Light instead. Last updated: 2006-04-10 12:00 AM

Drove to Columbia, checked into the Hampton Inn, which was conveniently 1 block form the club. Showered, went and ate at Jimmy John's (mmm...tuna sub). Went to club.
Drank 2 Yuenglings, checked out crowd.
