Pre-race routine:

Showed up plenty early, watched some of the starts and finishes, jogged around a little bit, went to the bathroom and then hopped on the trainer.
Event warmup:

Even though I got there early enough, I was only on the trainer for 15 minutes and intended to be on it for 20-25. Oh well. Legs still felt good since I didn't have a heavy week. Got my HR up to Z4 on the trainer by moving through all the gears and then settled, keeping it in Z2.

Comments:

Dropped my fucking chain on the fucking hill. Again. Fuck.
What would you do differently?:

Look for a race that requires a 100-yd sprint, put a chain on a bike, and another 100-yd sprint back to the finish. I might be able to do well in that.
Post race
Warm down:

Was supposed to be a 30-minute Z1 brick run. I did 10 minutes. About 200 yards in my left calf muscle cramped worse than I've ever experienced a cramp. I've never really known what people were talking about when they've had cramps that are almost crippling. Now I do.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Shit mechanics. I just had my bike tuned last Monday and a new chain put on. Outside of that, I did everything I physically could.

That's a solid effort and a good time even with the pause for the chain!

Good job on the road side mechanics!  Sorry about that, it certainly doesn't help with a good finish time.  But hey 23 mph is still rockin!  Next time huh?

Tough luck Ryan but still a good time I think. Your command of the "f" word is impressive.

You might have dropped your chain because you just had a new one put on. When you get a new chain it takes a while to break them in and they stretch a little bit, esp in the first few rides and you have to adjust them, sometimes take a link out.

My husband was a bike mechanic back before he had a "real" job, so he does all the work on our bikes. I don't trust the bike shops at all. If he didn't know how to do it, I would learn myself so I know exactly what was done and make sure it's quality work.
