Lemme see... my son is 8 and thinks I'm soooo uncool because I don't have ALL the current tunes on my iPod LOL

LMFAO - sexy and I know it (unbelievable what sells)

Foster the People: Pumped up Kicks

Good life - One republic

Anything by David Guetta, Rihanna, or Bruno Mars

There's some other song he was singing to the other day - don't know title or artist but the gist of it was lots of "de de de de or be be be be" LOL

Before you download anything, take a quick look at the lyrics through a Google search. I have a 10 year old and I'd rather not have her hear Katy Perry's Friday Night over and over for example.

There's a stranger in my bed There's a pounding in my head Glitter all over the room Pink flamingos in the pool I smell like a minibar DJ's passed out in the yard Barbies on the barbeque Is this a hickey or a bruise
Pictures of last night Ended up online I'm screwed Oh well It's a blacked-out blur But I'm pretty sure it ruled (Damn)
Last Friday night Yeah we danced on tabletops And we took too many shots Think we kissed but I forgot
Last Friday night Yeah we maxed our credit cards And got kicked out of the bar So we hit the boulevard
Last Friday night We went streaking in the park Skinny dipping in the dark Then had a ménage-a-trois
Last Friday night Yeah I think we broke the law Always say we're gonna stop-op Ooh-ohh
This Friday night Do it all again This Friday night Do it all again
Trying to connect the dots Don't know what to tell my boss Think the city towed my car Chandelier is on the floor Ripped my favourite party dress Warrants out for my arrest Think I need a ginger ale That was such an epic fail
Pictures of last night Ended up online I'm screwed Oh well It's a blacked-out blur But I'm pretty sure it ruled (Damn)

Funny how my 8 and 11 year olds are into Michael Jackson - not my fav but I have respect for his talent.  We have an ongoing argument about whether Thriller or Off the Wallis is the better album - ya know where my old school preferences reside.

I have hard a tough time coming to terms with current music, but we have found some common ground.  For what its worth, the kids also like Queen - Bohemian Rhapsody, We Will Rock You/We are the Champions,  You're My Best Friend, etc.

Rihanna's latest album, Talk That Talk, has a good bit of raunch on it. I can't imagine it would be suitable for a 10-year old. (Which isn't to say that a 10-year old wouldn't like it, just that it's probably not so much with the age-appropriateness.)

Oh yeah, got that right. I refuse to allow my son to download or buy the Rihanna/eminem S&M/abusive duet song. Actually, anything by eminem will likely be banned from being played in my house except for the cleaned up version of Lose Yourself.

For those worried about age-appropriateness, you do know that "Pumped Up Kicks" is about a kid fantasizing about carrying out a mass shooting, right?

Granted, the band say it's a song that's supposed to raise awareness and spark conversation between parents and kids about teenage gun violence.

However, absent that conversation, it's a catchy tune about a kid dreaming of committing mass murder.  That's way worse than any sex talk.

Anyhow, I find "The Asteroids Galaxy Tour" pretty catchy, and nothing in their lyrics has jumped out at me as something I'd keep away from the kids.  Doesn't mean it's not there.

yeah, at first it bothered me but its played on the radio loads so I did explain it to my kiddo. My husband and I were just talking about how when we were kids back in the 60-70s the songs we'd sing had lyrics like "we had joy we had fun we had seasons in the sun'; crocodile rock, chicaboom chicaboom..." etc... and granted, some of those songs then dealt with subjects really beyond our comprehension then again the lyrics were not so graphic nor offensive. Ah...the dark ages

I'm a child of the '80s and '90s, so I was doomed at birth.
