Swim
Comments: The reason I chose this for my first triathlon was because of the swim distance. I know that to most people, usually they are just getting in their groove by about 150 meters. But swimming is my weak point (at least that's what I thought before today; see bike report below). So I was a little nervous about the swim. Suprisingly though, it went REALLY well. I was anticipating about a 3:30 - 3:45, but my time was just over 3 mins. My breathing was controlled and my stroke felt solid. Totally boosted my confidence for future swims. What would you do differently?: Not worry about starting my watch at the start of the swim. Transition 1
Comments: I think I did really well for my first transition. I knew exactly where everything was and had gone through it in my head several times so there was no suprises. What would you do differently?: Probably could have done without the socks on such a short race. Bike
Comments: I did HORRIBLE on the bike. I guess I've been taking it for granted and not training enough, and it showed. Yeah there was a little wind, but that's no excuse. They added transition times to bike and run, but my computer had me at an average of 16.5 mph, still terrible, but better than my official time. I couldn't stay aero for very long at a time, my legs wore out quickly, I just couldn't get it going. Lesson learned for next time though: I have a new weak link. My biking is going to be my new focus of training. What would you do differently?: TRAIN HARDER! Transition 2
Comments: Another good tranistion. No problems. I thought about unclipping on the way in but decided against it. What would you do differently?: Nothin'. Run
Comments: Run felt fine. My times were what I expected. I passed a few of the people that had passed me on the bike so that felt good. What would you do differently?: Not much. Post race
Warm down: Had a bottle of water. Walked around, watched some other finishers come in. Had a bowl of gumbo. What limited your ability to perform faster: Lack of training. Event comments: This was my first tri, and I loved it! I can honestly say that because of this site, I felt much more prepared. Thank you all for the words of wisdom, experience, and encouragement. Hopefully there will be many more race reports to come.. Last updated: 2006-04-09 12:00 AM

Drove over to Eunice yesterday after work, about a 3 hour drive. Drove over to the race site and saw that the transition area was already set up, so that helped me to start forming my game plan. Slept like crap, was up at around 4, but layed around until about 5:30 then got up and got my stuff together and headed to the race site.
Got checked in, set up my transition area about 10 times before I decided that no matter what minute changes I made, it wasn't going to make me any faster. Checked out the other bikes there. Being such a short race and only having a little over a hundred people signed up, I figured this was going to be more of a newbie kind of race. Boy was I wrong. There were a couple of low end bikes there, but for the most part, REALLY nice stuff. A lot of these guys had been doing this for a while, and it showed. I got to talk to some guys that were really helpful and gave me some good pointers. Anyways, I ran about a mile to loosen up, that was it.
