Pre-race routine:

Comments:

I was a little nervous at the start. This was my first road race and I was being paced by a friend. I wasn't sure if I would be able to keep up but in the end I did pretty well. I was 26sec off the 45 min he thought I could do. I'm very happy with that time. My original goal when I started running regularly three and a half motnhs ago was to run sub 52 min 10k. Well I smashed that! The race was a lot of fun. I can't wait until the next one :)
What would you do differently?:

Wear a lot les clothing. As my friend Adam said for a 10k all you need is a fig leaf. He was right.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around and streached a little bit

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Training. I've only been at this for a few months so I need to work on my base and get some more long runs in. I've only ran more then 10k about 4 - 5 times, so the lack of distance training caught up to me the last couple k.

Event comments:

Everything went well. I've got one tri and one road race under my belt now. Feels good to start racing :)

Nice one, I did the TC 10k this year as well, ran it in 41:41 which is a PB for me. Loved the race, great day for it that's for sure!!! Good job on this 10km, you should do the race on July 1st, it is the same route and it will be good to see how you do on the same course in a couple of months.

Cheers,

Mike

Wow - excellent time for someone who's nevere experienced a 10 k race before. I laughed when I read about you overdressing. I experienced something similar last summer when a coworker started a 10 k race with me. He lined up with me at the start and I'm in running shorts and a coolmax t-shirt. I look over at him and he's got baggy sweats and is wearing a light wind breaker over his t-shirt. Just before the start he's fiddling with his MP3 player which is like a Blackberry in size. He then goes to put it in the pocket of his sweat pants and he's got tons of change and car keys in the pocket. I said "Dude what are you thinking" and he ask's what should he do. I said give me your car keys and I stashed them under my water bottle in my waterbottle belt (I don't need water but I had the belt on to carry my car key). As for the change I suggested dropping it because he was going to anyways. He did quite well - actually was ahead of me after the start but I passed him at the 6k mark when he gave up his jacket to a race volunteer. He had a tough last 4 km but finished in around 50 minutes.

Look forward to seeing the times from your next 10k!
