Sunny
Total Time = 3h 05m 14s
Overall Rank = 1946/3500
Age Group = 35-39
Age Group Rank = 295/356
Pre-race routine:

Up at 4AM and out the door at 4:45. Got to the race site and set up a good transition area. 1 empty rack next to me, so I had a little extra room. Took the mile walk to the starting beach and got there with about 15 minutes to spare
Event warmup:

running from porta pottie to porta pottie looking for TP was enough of a warm up. Got in the water to get used to the 74 degree water. Chilly, but not too bad
Swim
  • 38m 4s
  • 1500 meters
  • 02m 32s / 100 meters
Comments:

Very tough swim for me. Finished about 5 minutes slower than I had hoped. Got off to a horrible start again and had trouble getting into a nice relaxed rythmn. I got better about half way through the course, but it was still a fairly poor swim (although 9 minutes better than last year)
What would you do differently?:

work on getting out a bit quicker so I could hit the wall earlier. Once I get past the wall, I just kind of go on auto pilot.
Transition 1
  • 03m 42s
Comments:

Decent Transition. Got my bike stuff together quickly and ran the bike out of transition
What would you do differently?:

Have my energy gel taped to my handlebars
Bike
  • 1h 23m 10s
  • 24.85 miles
  • 17.93 mile/hr
Comments:

Decent ride, I could have pushed a little harder and knocked a couple of minutes off of my time, but I am not sure if that would have cost me more than a few minutes on the run
What would you do differently?:

Probably should have pushed a little harder on the bike and tried to hit 1:21
Transition 2
  • 02m 18s
Comments:

Good Transition. zmoght try to coast up to T2 while taking off my shoes next time.
Run
  • 58m 2s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 09m 21s  min/mile
Comments:

Good run. Not sure if it was because of all the training or if it was because I didn't hit the bike as hard as I could have. very happy with 58 minutes, I was planning on hitting 60 minutes
What would you do differently?:

could have picked up my final mile pace a little bit
Post race
Warm down:

walked around and got a massage

Event comments:

Great race. next year I will bring my own toilet paper and not play porta pottie roulette! Gotta break 3:50:00 next year
