Subject: tri tops for tall guy

I am 6'3", 200 lbs, and planning to do my first race in feb. Lookng for a 2-piece tri-suit. I know that I should be a size L in the shorts, but the tops are riving me crazy. I just tried a Louis Garneau XL, and my belly was showing. I really don't feel like doing the run portion of the tri looking like an "I dream of Jeannie" character Laughing

Any recommendation from tall guys about specific brands that work?

Also, I understand that the fit of different brands changes drastically. Anyone know of a "database" where people put their height/in-seam/etc. and the brands/sizes that they use? Might be a nice project for a tri-shop or even this site. hint, hint...

I am 6'7" and have not found a tri top that has come close to fitting correctly. I went the route of underarmor sleeveless compression shirts. They work fine.I might try to see if a desoto tri bib would work with a tri top.Good luck. Let me know if you find anything extra long.

A one piece tri suit would solve the problem.

I am 6'5' and my DeSoto Forza Rivera Tri Top is plenty long. It comes down past my hips. It also has rubberized grippers around the waist to keep it from riding up.

Highly recommend DeSoto gear, especially for tall people.

This is what I did.  It works, and it's way more comfortable in the end.

I thought the true purpose of tri tops was to equalize the field so we ALL look ridiculous!

Go for the one-piece if it bothers you.

I'm 6'3", 195 lbs.  I have a 2XU tri top size XL.  Not sure the model of the top but it's long enough for me - at least long enough to cover the fat roll that I need to lose.

I'm only 6'2" but weigh 215 with a big chest, and the DeSoto tops fit well in XL.  I would think it would still fit if I magically grew another inch.

Thanks for the input...will look at the desotos. According to their charts I am between sizes (L or XL), so will find a shop that has them and try some on. And if I find a one piece suit will try that one too, althought as a noob I don't think I can pull that look.

How "snug" are they supposed to fit? I am sure that they should be snug enough so not to drag during the swim, but does the old "if you think it fits is probably too large" adage for wetsuits also works for tri-tops?

Just to chime in, already said, but the DeSoto Riviera is the way to go... I did IMoo this year with the shorts and top, never had a single issue with either!!!  6'4"... 215, XL.  Great stuff and well worth it.

I'm wearing the Desoto Forza Riviera top in my avatar - not a great picture to see it though.  I'm 6'2" / 150, wearing a small and it's STILL long enough.  The larger sizes will work well for you.

Also at your size, you're probably borderline between L and XL.  Email them with your measurements and ask what size they recommend.  They're very responsive and will set you up with the right choice.

Edit: also they have a no-questions return policy on non-discounted items.  So if you order, you can always exchange it.

Definitely go with De Soto. Not only do they have a special fit for the larger folk but they are a great brand in general! You could also donate the extra height to me.

I have the same dimensions and have never been able to wear LG. Any of the Sugoi garments (tops, bottoms) fit very well. I haven't tried Desoto, but might based on the responses here.

I'm 6'4" and had the same problem.  I couldn't stand having just an inch or two of my belly showing.  I actually pull up the bottom a little bit so it comes up to just under my pecks where the zipper starts.  If i'm going to show belly i may as well go all or nothing.

Email their customer support.  They are very responsive, will ask for some measurements and will provide a sizing recommendation.  My local shops didn't stock much, so this worked great for me.  I'm 6'4", 190-195 and wear Large DeSoto shorts, tops and tribibs.  I thought I was between XL and L, but L is definitely what I needed.  It's pretty snug, but not constricting.

ETA: In other words, do what spudone said.
