A first for me in quite a loooooong time - I swam in the pool.  First time since my treatments.  And let me tell you, I SUCK!  I managed four, hundreds (8 laps) and I thought I was going to pass out.  Has anyone passed out in a pool?  Not even a quarter-mile!  Slow, weak and breathing like a walrus after a 200-meter sprint.  But I made it.  I think my new H2O Man waterproof mp3 helped me to ignore just how out of shape I truly am.  But the feeling of drowning helped to snap me back to reality.

Now back at my desk with my head about to collapse onto my keyboard, I'm reminded once again of just how far I have to go.  Frown

Congrats for getting back at it.

I know the feeling of being walrus like in the pool.

Next time will be easier!

The journey of a thousand miles begins with the first step stroke.  Cool

It could be worse, you could have only been able to do 200!

I meant a walrus on LAND!  Walruses are actually quite graceful and fast in the water.  Wink

Welcome back to the pool!

The link below may help...

Hardy-har-har-har.  For some reason that endurance part at the end wasn't working too well for me today.  "The spirit is willing..."

Welcome back.

I just started swimming again after a six week layoff due to some minor surgeries. After the first one they called me back and said "the biopsy shows we need to go back and take some more".

Woo Hoo.

Better than the alternative though.

Keep at it. Swimming is suprisingly easy to regain ground in.

Here is a quote from the first line of your own post:

"The key to swimming is reducing drag, not endurance or powering through the water. "

ON a totally serious note...there is absolutely no reason you should have velt like you did when you know what you know. I would expect someone who doesn't know what you wrote ot feel like you did...

but if your number one goal is reducing drag...this takes very little energy and should not make you feel exhausted...what was going on? are you recanting your own advice?

I ask both in jest and seriously...

Just read the first line and repeat it after yourself multiple times before your next swim...you should feel worlds better.

You'll be killing it no time and posting a thread about how excited you are that you've made such awesome gains

Keep up the good work man and keep getting in the pool.

It's going to be about 9 months by the time I am able to take my first freestyle stroke...and that may not pan out the way I hope it will.

But it makes me happy to hear of others who are where I hope to be soon. Keep at it for those that can't!

Doug, I don't really 'know' you other than seeing your comments and such but I really, really enjoy and admire your attitude and perseverence.  I know these things will help you move from big.floundering.slow.exhausted.doug to superslickspeedynotoutofbreathatalldoug!

Congrats on getting back in the pool!  Let the chlorination begin!
