Run
Comments: As we started I went straight to the front and after 10yds I realized nobody was going to join me. I guess My 2nd concern was a valid one. This was going to be a solo effort. Felt pretty good from the get go and thought I was running, and was going to be happy with, a 5:20 odd pace. I got to the 1mi marker and saw 5 flat. 1st thought was that I had some pain headed my way. Stayed pretty solid in the 2nd mile and did not drop off too much. Hit 2mi in 10:23. At about 2.25mi I started to hurt a little and knew I was going to have to do some serious work to keep it going. (this is where that pack might have helped some) Think I brought it home pretty good and was pretty happy to see the 16:30. What would you do differently?: in the shape that I am in, I don't think I could have done much different that would have helped. Overall I need to train more and get a long stretch of consistant training under my belt. Gotta quit the 3months on 7 month off routine. Post race
Warm down: 2mi super slow jog around the course What limited your ability to perform faster: training and maybe having to do it solo. 2nd place was 1:33 behind me. Event comments: In general a good race, but being a 1st time race the lack of competition makes it average for me as opposed to good. Think it was good for MOP entrants. Thought I would jump in this local 5k so I can get a better idea of where I am at running wise. Need to get a idea of how to proceed in the next 6 weeks for the Quintiles Half Marathon.
Few concerns going into it.
1) The fastest single mile I have run in the last 9 months or so is a 6:30 aomewhere in a 12mi run. It is always a little wierd going to run, hopefully, fast when you have not even approached that pace in a long long time. You just never know what you might have in your pins.
2)Knowing that Wilmington is a little smaller town I was worried that there would be nobody to run with. I was not doing the race to win, but more so I could get as honest a hard effort as I could. Being able to follow or chase generally gets you going a touch quicker than doing a solo time trial.
Woke up at 5:55am to walk the pups. Got home and had a cup o joe (actually Peets not joe) and also 2 eggo waffles.
Got to the race and did a very slow 2mi w/up run. Did 1 or 2 stretches and one 100yd stride, Then it was to the start line.
