Comments: I pushed hard. I was pushing as hard as I felt I could, and when I pushed harder (or tried to) there wasn't much room left to move. I tried to save some for the end, but I can't honestly tell a difference in my pace/effort from the beginning and the end. I started out with a couple of women from Eric's office who said they were the same pace as me. By about the half mile mark, two of them had gone on ahead a bit, while one stayed with me. I couldn't tell if I was pushing her, or if she was pushing me. I swear I was running harder in the first mile than I normally would have. At the one mile mark, she stopped to walk and I went on. I tried to increase my effort at every mile marker after that, and although I could see my HR going up with each "push", my times remained pretty consistent the whole way through (12:30 min/miles). What would you do differently?: Put sunscreen on my face! Doh! Post race
Warm down: Walked around and chatted with Eric's coworkers. Enjoyed a delicious pancake breakfast served up by the Kiwanis Club. What limited your ability to perform faster: Taking 6 months off from running over the winter, and gaining 20 pounds. Event comments: I like this race because it really brings the community together. There were over 10,000 people there! And we raised over $1 million dollars for the various agencies. Supposedly it's one of the top Human Race events nation-wide. And the course is just beautiful! We jogged from the Jeep to the school because we were running late to meet the other people from Eric's office.
