Cold! Just plain cold. Large boulder-type rocks as the start. Struggled some with my form but it was expected. Did I mention it was cold?
What would you do differently?:

Not jump in the water when the air and water temp are freezing!
Transition 1

Comments:

Lousey transition. Long run from the beach. Could not feel my hands. My arms were frozen stiff and felt like flippers. Had trouble getting out of wetsuit and over shock from the cold water.
What would you do differently?:

Stay home.

Weather and weight.

Event comments:

The race directors may have had the best of intentions but they were less than orgainzed. The course was fine but the pre and post race food and activities were minimal. Who wants to eat cold pizza after an effort like a triathlon? Coffee or hot choc. would have been great!

Then again, God Bless anyone who will take on the challenge and responsibility of producing a tri!

Whew!  Water temp at 52 degrees, that builds character!  Well, at least you went from "stay home" to "nothing" to "need to do more bricks" in your evaluation of what you'd do differently, so I'm guessing you got more into the race as you went along.  Congrats on getting out there and doing it...a lot of people would have stayed home!

This man is tops!! He even stayed behind for the cerimonies, and let me hang with him in his van to warmup. This guy is all about support.
I'm not sure you mentioned the "painful" rain (that felt like hail) during the bike, or the wind on the run that completely numbed the legs.

Good job on finishing a race on a tough day.

The water was actually hovering around -60+ degrees, a few people (crazy people) did the swim with no wetsuits.. One guy with nothing but a little bitty Speedo. We actually shortened the swim due to the adverse conditions. The rocks on the swim need to be taken care of for sure! If you take a look at the race website, the bike is listed at 13 miles. You may have been thinking of Wolf Creek which is listed at 10 miles and is a more of a closed course. Like I said in another post about the race, unfortunately a handful of volunteers didn’t make it out on our beautiful race day so we did the best we could with the resources that we had. What most people didn’t know was that our finish line chip timer stopped working after 30 or so chips went across… fortunately we had a good backup… it was a little slower and manual but we were able to provide the results at 11:30am. I would have loved some coffee or hot chocolate myself… I was freezing… but there were several cases of water and soda in the pavilion.
