Updates to version 2.40.  Release notes are below.  The update process preserved data and settings.  I will not be running until Sunday so I cannot answer whether or not the instantaneous pace issue has been resolved.

  • Improved calculation of instantaneous pace.
  • Fixed occasional watch freeze issue during pool swim.
  • Fixed potential dropout of speed/cadence data when using speed/cadence sensor and particular power meters when GPS off.
  • Fixed occasional problem of multisport activities containing pool swim not uploading to Garmin Connect.
  • Made improvement to reduce elevation spikes at beginning of activities.

One bug that remains for me is that if I'm in either swim mode and go into my history to look at totals for any sport, they are in the thousands of miles.  If I am in run or bike mode, the history totals for any sport is correct.  I have reported this to Garmin but don't know if they view it as a bug or not.

Thanks!  Mine was supposedly shipped from HRmonitors.com yesterday.  I'll get the update applied then and see if I can duplicate your history problem. =)

you're going to love it.  I did 2050yds in the pool yesterday and it didn't miss a single lap.  Very cool!

Anyone see if this update includes NP, TSS etc. for bike power? I don't see it in the release notes

Mine too.

I've never used one a GPS watch before, so I'm looking forward to finally getting to understand what the hell are all these things that y'all have been talking about.

Pace is better, but they're still a way off.  The 310xt is still more consistent.  My pace fluctuated in 30 second increments at times.  Meh.  The overall distance and mile avg.  seem accurate.  Minor disappointment that current pace is still off.

Yep....pace is still way off too.  Looks like the "fix" did not take care of the problem :-(

Is the average pace ok?  Just the instant pace messed up??  Thinking about getting one of these.  I currently have the 610.  It is horrible on the bike, is the 910 much better for the bike?  What information does it tell you when biking and what does it tell you when riding on a trainer?

Just the instant pace messed up?? So far this is what I have noticed.

Thinking about getting one of these.  I currently have the 610.  It is horrible on the bike,

is the 910 much better for the bike? I've only ridden with it on the trainer and it has been flawless so far.

What information does it tell you when biking and what does it tell you when riding on a trainer? There are many metrics that it measures.  If you have a speed/cadence sensor it will of course give you those.  Pace, power, distance etc.

It's a great watch especially for all of the swim information it records.

Thanks....I have the speed/cadence sensor.  When you say "power".....is it watts you are referring to?  How does it calc that?  Trying to figure out if I want a swim and run watch...and a separate piece for the bike.  The spinervals tests measure watts and thought you have to have a power meter (i am still learning) for that.

Yes you would need a power meter in order to have the watch give you that information.  I have a PT, so the 910xt has recorded that information perfectly so far.

You need the wireless power meter to get your power reading (watts).

I have heard that hard resetting the 910xt after the firmware update may help with the current pace issue.  Has anyone tried this?

I guess I'm going to have to try that.  Just got back from my first run since the firmware update.  Did 6 miles at an average pace of 8:17/mile.  For most of the run, the 910xt showed 8:55 or 9:20.  One mile in particular I watched it most of the mile and it reported over 9:00 for almost the whole mile but when I got to the mile split the mile was 8:30.

It's better than it was, but it's still not usable.  Before it was off by a couple of minutes/mile.  Now, it's off by 30-60 seconds give or take.

I don't think Garmin considered the possibility that non-elite athletes would be buying this watch.  People report that the problem doesn't really exist at much faster paces.  One would think that they would at least test in the 9:00 or 10:00 minute mile pace, just to see.

Garmin - please just do whatever you did in the Garmin 305 to the 901xt!!!

I received my 910xt in the mail on Friday.  Did the FW upgrade immediately and did a long run today.  I didn't think it was much different than my 305.

I will give this disclaimer.  I had the watch on auto scroll so I wasn't watching the instantaneous pace for every second of the run.  When I did peek it seemed to be close to my current lap paces.

I'll do another run without the auo scroll on and see if I can notice a difference.

I just did the update and haven't had a chance to put it to use yet.  I have a swim workout tomorrow; however, now by backlight doesn't come on.

I've tried powering off and back on and that doesn't work - any suggestions?

Thanks,

twomarks
