Comments:

welllll..... some whole swim team full of kids was there. LOTS of bikinis today, maybe I should get one too. NO tummy issues today. The yellow beach flags were out today. I thought they looked orange. anyhoo... I swallowed way more water than ST A's. It was ugly. I found a green cap and used it as a sighting thing. But then I eventually passed the green cap. When I hit the turnaround buoy, I was all alone, so did the windmill turn thingie and it was pretty cool. The ride back in was great, I was more relaxed this time, probably because I can't see the waves coming at my face. I did better this lap, the only bad thing was I couldn't see the dang buoy and didn't know if I was on course or not, since I could see a kayak I thought I was okay, but can't hear if he's yelling at me, so... I hate it when it gets this way, you can't see, can't hear, what a bitch. But that's my life. Deal with it. anyhoo, made the buoy, sprinted for it, swam in till my fingers touched the bottom, stood up and got knocked over by a wave. So graceful. Did some goofy skips out of the water, and got handed a card that said 70, which I thought was funny because I was marked 70.
What would you do differently?:

relax. Sight better. Not breathe every stroke and learn to bilateral breathe.
Post race
Warm down:

walk around looking for kids.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I'm slow. waves. Drinking saltwater.

Event comments:

pretty good race, small. Benefits the city's junior lifeguard program. It's on Clearwater beach which is a great nice beach to spend the day afterwards, but we had other stuff to do.
**update:*** this time sucked. The age groups were realy skewered- the largest was 15-19 with the swim teams and times were 20 min to 29 min for that AG. Some fast young'uns there. I was good enough to place second if I was aged up and fourth if I was a couple years younger. I need to get used to the OW swimmin' thing.

Great job C! After St A's I would love to get more practice- anything to make that seem easier or more comfortable so it seems you are definitely on the right track.

  1. It's about damn time you did your RR!
  2. Sorry I wasn't there. Life stuff getting in the way.
  3. Let's do an OWS together - you name the Saturday or Sunday. You drive to my house, I'll drive us to the beach. We'll have breakfast afterwards.
  4. GREAT JOB ON YOUR RACE!!!! Don't be discouraged. When I did these races last year, one of my times was about 15 minutes slower than the previous race - MONSTER WAVES. This is what makes you a stronger, more relaxed OW swimmer. Congratulations on your race and way to get out there and do it!

Way to get in another OW swim! I'm thinking of doing one on Sunday. It's really good practice. I love Clearwater Beach too- I grew up there until I was 13. I miss it.
