Wow...you wern't joking about those hills...lol.

This was my first time doing the Victoria Du.  Great venue.  Professionally run, nice setup inside and outside.  Tough little course!  I had no idea that this place existed.  Creekside Church....quite the setup they have out there! The run was challenging but not stupid in it's grades going up or down.  4k is a nice distance for me.  I liked the bike ride.  Again, some of those hills were tough, but not insane.  Seeing the leaders returning on the ride and there speed/technique was awesome...you think they had motors on there bikes...just amazing to watch them.  Lots of police, volunteers, and officials.  Felt safe on the road cycling out back!  I'm not a duathlete, but tempted to do this race again next year.

My only critiques (cause we always have em ) - There was definitely some confusion at the start.  I think a lot of people assumed a mass start and took off with the first wave.  Saw quite a few people in my age group (30-39) leave with the first wave.  They announced about 300 times the start times beforehand, etc. but oh well.  Running on the grass out of transition and into finish line was a bit tough for me.  The sod felt uneven and lumpy like I was going to lose my footing sometimes.  It needs to be rolled and topdressed.  Maybe this was just me though.  Last but not least:  the guy who decided to bath in the pond afterwards....pretty gross.  Dude...there was goose s**t everywhere..and it's a manmade pond...not chemically treated for swimming....lol.  Cool    Hope you didn't come down with any wierd disease or infection...

Anyone who did this race, congrats too! Nice hot day!

congrats to all of those who competed yesterday - the hills are always tougher in the heat! having rode up on my CX bike, i'd forgotten how nasty the bike course is; i had meant to hit the big hill past moser young, but i was pretty much done by the time i made it up to the one just past hergott/maplewood

i took a bunch of photos of the wave starts, bike and run courses:

also, big congrats to 2paz and his lovely wife who did the race as a relay!

cheers!

Thanks for the pic K!  It was great meeting you and your husband!

It was a fun day for the wife and I (first time doing ANY sort of sport as a team).  She was intimidated by the multisport athletes as she is used to running events only.

At the end of the day on our drive home she commented on how positive the atmosphere and athletes are and how many good conversations she had with other athletes.  She wants to do more in the future and she wants to do this course again next year so that she can kill her time from last year.

I was happy with my overall bike time and hopefully I can keep up that pace when I do Woodstock on Sunday.
