If I don't feel like training. I don't.

That's a legitimate reason to me. I don't make a living doing triathlons. It's a hobby for me. At which point it is no longer fun and entertaining I'll take up another hobby.

Monday - when I drove to the pool to discover it was closed for the week.  The pool 20 minutes away didn't have lap swim at that time.  So later that evening I haul it across town to swim, only to discover that they closed the pool early because no one was in it...

Someone died. In my line of work, that's common.

Drove the swimming pool (20 min drive), went to the change room...

...I forgot my bathing suit.

I've done that before. Pissed me off, lol cause I had to drive quite far too. I ended up going to a nearby walmart and picking up a cheapo swimsuit.

I skip days when I feel more achy and sore than usual or tired. I try not to over do it.

Barring sickness, which I've actually been fortunate not to have had for years, and injury which I've been somewhat lucky with so far, I'd say there are two main reasons:

1.  Burn out.  If I went hard the day before, and I'm just not recovered well combined with a long work/school day, I'm better off restructuring the rest of my week's workouts to accommodate and taking the day off.  Doesn't happen very often, but it has happened.  Better to put in quality work outs than pound out junk miles or splash around like a half dead fish.

2.  This isn't exactly avoiding a workout per se, but it's less focused and usually less intense.  If it's a nice warm day and I had a run or swim scheduled, I'll switch it up with a ride, or in some cases, I'll go on a trail run with friends.  I don't mind sacrificing a hard workout in favour of an easy one to hang out with some friends as long as I've got a balanced week ahead of me training wise.

Yep.....there was a time when I had to train....but that was long ago.  Now (and for the last 30 years) it's just PART of my life....a big part to be sure, but not something I lose sleep over if it doesn't happen.  I get a workout in most days, but some days life gets in the way, and some days I'm just tired. No excuses needed.

I skipped my 8 mile run this past Sunday because a friend of mine called and told me we had tickets to the final round of the Masters.  I told my coach I missed my run and he said it could be my cheat day for the month.  I told him it was a no brainer whether he liked it or not!

Anyone else got a good reason for missing a workout?

I would skip just about everything for the final round of the Masters.  That is a once in a lifetime deal....at least for me it would be!

I missed SEVERAL workouts, because I was hit by a car and busted my femur, working out.

^^^ You win.  Were you the guy that gave back Luis Oo's Albatross ball?

That was not me, but I did see Bo Van Pelt's hole in one on 16.  First ace I have ever seen in person.

Ha, no - but... since I am a peaceful clergy type who is the only guy in the county who is unarmed, I've wondered how I will intimidate suitors when my daughter arrives at dating age. (Currently we set it at post masters-degree. She's 8 now.)

I'll say "son, I bury people for a living. I can always do one for free."

The straight face, my friend. Gives nothing away in regards to feelings regarding anything about the situation. Quite intimidating, according to my oldest. I think I was named scariest parent for it. I also once told her to inform her suitor that I know what his car looks like. No more, no less.

Well, I swear this sort of thing never happens to me, but I went to buy some Gatorade for my workout and there were these smokin' hot twins at the quickie mart.  They asked me if I needed a ride and said they had two tubs of Cool Whip and some Twizzlers in the car . . .

Too tired.  Happens a lot more often now that I've been commuting for the past year.  Oh well.  At least I'm still doing some workouts.
