I have been accused of being blind before...so maybe I did.

The 1/4 mile and 1/2 mile markers were in the water, I did see them-- but I was referring to the long line of buoys that used to stretch from the beach start all the way down to the 1/4 mile buoy.  It helped a bit with sighting and also separated those swiminng north from those swimming south.  Not a big deal...just wondering...

I heard that portions of the lake at Ohio St. are shallower than years past, anyone else seen or feel that?

I am heading to Ohio St. Saturday morning around 8am for a mile swim... first time this year in open water.  Any others heading out this weekend?

I am supposed to meet some friends at 8 a.m. on Sat. My name is mike. Looking forward to seeing everyone. I am hoping to get out early 5 a.m. for a bike before the lakefront gets crowded.

Yes, along Ohio street seawall, I would guess it's close to a foot shallower than last year.

I swam yesterday and the water felt soooooo goood. It definitely is more shallow. I have no idea if this is true or not, but someone sometime told me that the distance start marker is that light pole on the left about 100 yards in so that's just where I start. Anyway, last year the water was about waist high for me and yesterday it was mid-thigh. I think the boundary flags also are way closer to the seawall than they were last summer. Of course, that didn't matter as I ended up zigzagging all over and somehow even swam under them and finished up on the other side? Oh well. Still had a blast. Glad to be out of the chlorine.

ETA: The temp was 64 and I wore a sleeveless and it was totally fine.

Anyone planning on going for a swim today?  This will be my first ows of the year.  Any idea what the temps have been for the last couple of days?  Trying to decide on sleeves or sleeveless.

Check on the Chicago Parks website. It says it on there somewhere.

I'm not going tonight as I already have plans but I'm thinking of maybe going on Friday after work, which I know is when Crowny said he and the missus could go.

I'll be there tonight around 6 p.m., with a bright pink swim cap. Hope my sleeveless wetsuit is enough. Parks site says water is 65 degrees. See you there!

I swam there twice this past weekend, water temp was around 64 degrees.  I was in my sleeveless suit and once you get past the initial bite of the water temp, it was quite comfortable.  The water was quite calm and is pretty clear compared to my swims last year, and better yet, there is very little debris in the water (except for the naked man in the water looking for clothes to wear).

My hope is not make it down there too by 6pm. Black full Zoot wetsuit and probably a white swimcap.  Yeah that won't really distinguish me will it?

I think I saw you yesterday - were you with another girl in a pink swimcap? I was w/my training group and was getting instructions from our coach so I didn't want to yell out "HEY YOOOOOOOOOOOOU!"

That was me! We both wore our pink caps so we could find each other. This was my first lake swim of the year, and only my second lake michigan swim ever - I was surprised by how comfortable the water temp was. I got a little freaked out by the waves -- they were bigger than I remember -- but since I could touch down the entire time it was really no big deal.

I was also surprised by how many people were swimming. There's really no way to tell us apart down there, is there? We need BT swim caps or something.

I'm going to come back and swim down there Saturday or Sunday. I love my wetsuit! My name's Nicole and I'll wear my neon pink cap again when I'm there. Shout out next time!

(PS- That other girl I was swimming with? The one without the wetsuit? She is a damn good swimmer. She swam a mile in the same time I swam a half-mile. I was wearing a wetsuit, and she was wearing just a swimsuit AND a drag suit. I have a LOT of work to do!)

You and about 20 others! I actually think I may have seen you over by the ladders but I didn't get this until today.

I am planning on swimming tomorrow after work (6pm).  Does anybody know if there are lockers this year.  Not sure I want to leave my stuff sitting out next to the bike racks.

Anyone swimming tomorrow (Thursday 6/28) at Ohio St. beach?  I am planning on getting there around 6:30pm for a swim... should be quite pleasant given the temperature.

Swam 1.5 no wetsuit. After the first minute or two it was great. I will be doing Muncie and from what I have heard wetsuits may not be allowed.
