So is anyone else in for Mountain Madness next weekend? Registration is till open.

They just recently posted up the run course: 4 cat 5 climbs on the run. Sweet.

And course we all know about the bike.

At least the swim is flat. I think...

This is not a course for the weak. Therefore, I will be training at home for American TTT-Ohio instead. Anyone that completes Mtn Madness is a winner in my book.  10k bike climb? Holy moly!

We have a handful of athletes that are brave enough to challenge it.  I will be part of a relay.  I'm doing the bike portion. It will be interesting considering I haven't ridden more than 22 miles on my bike since last September.

Dan - half of the bike course is downhill - you should be just fine. Laughing

What an excellent race!!!  Matt and the team did a great job organizing the event.   Who else did the race?

AMA168 - 2012-05-08 4:25 PM What an excellent race!!!  Matt and the team did a great job organizing the event.   Who else did the race?

Wound up 3rd in my AG - most fun I have had at a race in a long, long, time. I am hesitant to tell folks how awesome this race was for fear that it will sell out next year before I can register! The swim is great: deep water start and nice and roomy (how about that swim back into the sun though? Just follow the splashing and hope for the best!). The bike is great - the climb out of the park gets you nice and jacked followed by that screaming 3 mile descent, then 18~19 miles of fast rollers followed up of course by the 10k, 1800' Fort Mountain climb then immediate descent. The preview rides were the ticket as it helped remind you that you were going to have a 3 mile climb at the end back to T2 - I think that caught a lot of folks off guard. And then of course there is the run: both Garmin and Strava said almost 1500' of climbing over 13.1 miles. Not sure how accurate that is, but that is my story and I am sticking to it. Temps in the high 80's, but still a fair amount of shade.

This was definitely a pacer's race: only one guy finished in under 5 hours. And it was an old person's race as well: I think Matt said there were 206 folks that showed up on race day; 76 of them were master's men. Like the preview rides, the food was great, and the volunteers were awesome - it seemed like everyone that we ran into that lived in the area was really into it as well.

We will definitely be back next year - just don't tell anyone else how awesome this race is.

Man...that course was brutally fun.  I have not had that much fun on a bike in a long time.  Flying down the mountain was certainly worth the climb.

It was great seeing all of you guys out there.  Great 1st year race.

I did the run on a relay team.  Wasn't really up to that distance yet but decided to do it anyway knowing I could walk part of it and I did.  It's very hilly...about 2100 ft of climbing.  I really enjoyed it and would do the relay again next year but with more hill training.
