Heads up for those who plan on registering for IMTX 2013 this weekend:Additionally, registration for the 2013 Memorial Hermann IRONMAN Texas will not open on Sunday, May 20, as previously posted.

IRONMAN must ensure proper course permits are finalized prior to opening 2013 race registration. Registration will open after meetings with local municipalities and city officials.

Crossing my fingers that they change the date!

I'm so glad you posted this! I've been thinking...and thinking...about going back to redeem myself in 2013.

Highly doubt they'd move it to mid-summer. Really?! No way.

If they are smart they will move it to the fall or early early spring although now having seen this ridiculosly wealthy comuinity I can't believe they ever allowed it to be staged here.

If The Woodlands folks are that stuck up and can't get over ONE DAY of partially closed roads then they don't deserve this race!  How many tax dollars does this one race bring in?  If they are smart they'll do what they need to do to keep this race here!

Not sure they could really move the date as you have an Ironman 70.3 in early spring in Galveston and a 70.3 in October in Austin.

I'm not surprised at all.  I predicted this before the 2011 race.  A friend of mine who lives locally says the Woodlands also got rid of a fancy pro golf tournament several years ago...because of the impact on the community, so you know an event that isn't stuck off in a country club but rather allows us to be on the roads keeping Muffy and Chase from their soccer and lacrosse games is not going to be very welcome.

that's not true.  the golf tourney left the woodlands for political reasons (golfers weren't crazy abt course, parking sucked for spectators, bad relationship between houston golf assoc and the woodlands surrounding the building of a new course for the tourney and who needed who more for future growth, and general lack space limitations).  it wasn't becuase the locals were upset or a negative impact on the community.  i've read that houston golf and the PGA know their decision to leave was a bad one.  especially now that the woodlands is even bigger and nicer now.

i haven't heard any groaning from the locals.  quite the opposite, actually.

OK. Was just posting what I heard. My friend's husband is a cop in that area and that was their take on it.   Enjoy!

Agree with Courtney. I live in the woodlands and most of the complaints have come from the surrounding community along the bike course. The date also coincided with numerous proms. I hope they have it in the woodlands for 2013 for my first IM.

On a side note, did someone actually bring race into this issue?

So, maybe it is being moved to Sunday?

Sunday would be bad for traffic complaints. Several mega churches are in the woodlands with different services during the day and traffic would be much worse.
