Total Time = 1h 36m 46s
Overall Rank = 41/224
Age Group = 30-34
Age Group Rank = 6/15
Pre-race routine:

Forgot to have breakfast so I ate the bar that was in the bag...wow was that NASTY!
Event warmup:

Was really trying to help Mandy with the boys so I didn't get one at all which didn't seem to hinder my performance.
Run
  • 21m 40s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 06m 58s  min/mile
Comments:

I started about 3-4 rows from the front of the pack as last year I got stuck in the crowd and I didn't want that to happen again.

This was a FAST run. Seemed like everyone was moving. I was hoping for about 22-23 so I was right on pace with it but it sure seemed faster than that.

Last half or so a guy was pacing himself with me so we chatted a bit during the run just to break it up a little bit.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing.
Transition 1
  • 00m 45s
Comments:

I was in and out in a hurry and was very happy with that. Where I was racked no one was back yet so there were tons of bikes. Took me a couple extra seconds to find the bike.
What would you do differently?:

Mental note for next time to look for the green tires...that's how I ended up spotting it.
Bike
  • 51m 48s
  • 18.64 miles
  • 21.59 mile/hr
Comments:

I moved as much as I can on this. First lap was fast as it was breaking out and letting loose at first. Started to settle in on the second loop a little bit but started to wonder about the pace I was keeping and being able to hold it and do the next 5k.

I knew I was catch a lot of people on this as cycling is my strength.
What would you do differently?:

Be a little more aggressive on the climbs. A few of them I found myself just spinning up rather than attacking for such a short course.
Transition 2
  • 00m 39s
Comments:

I was in and OUT! I had the 5th fastest time for transition. When I got back NO one in my area was back so it took me a little bit to find my spot. I think I could have easily cut a couple extra seconds off if I knew EXACTLY where I was located.

What would you do differently?:

Thinking next time of wrapping a bright piice of tape around the rack that can be spotted a ways away.
Run
  • 21m 56s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 07m 03s  min/mile
Comments:

It was starting to get hot! I had no idea what time time splits were so I wasn't sure how fast I was going but I knew I was running hard. The winner and I crossed paths about 5 minutes in so I knew I was doing pretty good with my pace and he wasn't THAT far ahead. Obviously I wasn't going to catch him but it's not like had finished the race yet (Which he's done...)

Just kept plugging along and grinding away.
What would you do differently?:

When I saw the results I was very happy with my time as it was only 16 seconds slower that the first 5k. Made me wonder if I could have used a little bit more on the bike.

nice job Jeff-you were MOVING!

it is more difficult to hold pace when the weather gets hotter and I expect the training volume for IMLP could have some effect but, overall, NICE race!

that bike time is just sensational, wow
