Total Time = 1h 40m 44s
Overall Rank = 132/447

Age Group Rank = 25/51
Pre-race routine:

Got up at 4am, ate a banana and muesli bar and drank an instant coffee - yuk!
Drove down to Brisbane in the dark and rain and managed to park one street away. I walked over the the rego tent and got my race pack the back to the car to change. Toilet stop and large skinny flat white.
Event warmup:

5 minute walk, 2 minute jog plus pick ups then waited in the rain
Run
  • 1h 40m 44s
  • 21.1 kms
  • 04m 46s  min/km
Comments:

Used my Garmin on pace mode and tried to keep to 4:45 pace, felt just right and managed to hold this comfortably but didn't feel I could go faster. I could see the 1:40 pacer up ahead but couldn't quite catch him!
What would you do differently?:

Wear bandaids on my nipples...
Post race
Warm down:

Drank some sports drink, got my t shirt and medal then went for a 5km easy run to get my long run mileage done. My calves felt very stiff doing this!

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Lack of racing experience at this distance

Event comments:

Quite a small race and mainly experienced runners and triathletes. There really needed to be something to eat at the finish, all they gave was more sports drink and a bottle of water

Hey copa2251!

Great run! Could the course have been any more boring? - or are we just spoilt in Queensland? ;-)

How did you feel about your race as an indicator for the GCM?

Hi! Yes, I reckon this was the most ugly, boring run I've ever done in Australia! As far as the GCM goes, in theory you can multiply your HM time by 2.1 to get a marathon time but I'm going for 3:45. I've done the half at the Goldie before an it's a much more inspiring event.Edit: just looked at the GCM race link and see you've done it a few times, what would your planned pace time for me based on my time in this race???

You must have forgotten this was a 9 MINUTE PR!  Congrats on a great race. It should make you feel so confident heading into your marathon.

PS.  A skinny flat white?  huh?
