Overall Rank = 2/3
Age Group = 40-49
Age Group Rank = 1/1
Pre-race routine:

English muffin with peanut butter and bannana, coffee, and a bottle of water. Drove the bike course before setting up, to make sure there were no suprises along the way.
Event warmup:

Practiced my transistions, did a few laps in the pool
Swim
  • 15m 10s
  • 725 yards
  • 02m 05s / 100 yards
Comments:

A real good swim for me - did a pretty good job of keeping my form for the entire distance - was definetely not the last out of the water this year!!!!

I cut about two minutes off my time from last year - YEA!!!!
What would you do differently?:

More speed work.
Transition 1
  • 01m 10s
Comments:

T1 went perfectly - I practiced last night, and again this morning - everything from how to jump out of the pool, to where I stashed a towel (to dry off while running) to quickly getting back on the road. I put my gloves on my aerobar shifters, and put them on while moving - Great Idea. I also wore my tri-top in the pool - another great idea. Nothing worse than getting your top wrapped up around your neck wet, and fighting it. I stashed two gels in my top, and they stayed there, so I did not have to fuss with that either. I'm not sure about the time in T-1, it may have been less than a minute.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing - cut about 20 seconds off my transition time from last year. It was good - people were in the transition, when I got out of the pool, and most of those same people were still there as I was roaring down the road on my bike.
Bike
  • 52m 36s
  • 14 miles
  • 15.97 mile/hr
Comments:

This went perfectly - I only saw three other riders, and I passed them easily (even passed two on the uphill portion). I pushed a pretty fast pace for me on the hill, trying to keep a minimum of 9 mph. Going downhill, hit a max of 32 mph.

Time was about the same as last year, which I was little disappointed about.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing - good taper, good fueling, good execution
Transition 2
  • 00m 55s
Comments:

Again, flawless execution. I do not belive that I could do this any faster.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing - cut about 35 seconds off my T2 from last year.
Run
  • 27m 52s
  • 3.3 miles
  • 08m 26s  min/mile
Comments:

Run was a little slow - I had to walk a little bit at the start, cause both my calves started trying to cramp on me. Worked that out, and kept drinking to try to prevent any further problems. Rest of run was OK, I just knew that I wasn't at the speed that I really wanted to be.
What would you do differently?:

More bricks will help me transistion off the bike better.
Post race
Warm down:

Gatorade, water, some chocolate milk and a couple of laps in the pool

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Climbing speed on the bike - and running speed.

Event comments:

This is a fun little race - only about 25 people, always a few newbies, I took second overall in the elite course (there were only three of us, I was 2 minutes behind the leader). I took first place in my age division (cause I was the only one in my age division).

Hi Cindy,Yes, it was a lot of fun. The shorter races are great, there's no stress, and you can focus on having a good time. Later,Dennis
