Comments:

good first swim of the year. came out of the water in 25:xx but there is a stupid long uphill run into transition. Not fun. I'm happy with how I did. there were to VERY fast girls in my age group.
What would you do differently?:

nothing
Transition 1
  • 02m 3s
Comments:

I felt like my time was horrible. I had trouble putting on both my bike shoes and my helmet, but looks like I didn't do too badly compared to the other girls in my age group.
What would you do differently?:

Practice putting on my aero helmet. Put on socks (more on that below.

Comments:

Pretty good ride for me given the terrain and the wind. I have a hard time riding in the right zone, particularly in the wind, I always feel like I am going harder than I am. When we turned around and felt the wind really strong I just put on my big girl underwear and pushed it. I kept an eye on my HR to make sure I was staying in the proper zone. I had a lot of people pass me in the first half, but only a few people passed me in the second half
What would you do differently?:

maybe start pushing a little harder in the first half after my HR recovered? I really don't know, I think this was a really good ride for me.
Transition 2
  • 01m 13s
Comments:

again, felt like I was slow, a little tippy when putting shoes on, but T2 was good compared to the others in my age group.
What would you do differently?:

put on socks
Run
  • 54m 43s
  • 10 kms
  • 05m 28s  min/km
Comments:

Instructions were to run in zone 2/3. I stayed in zone 2 for most of the run, got into zone 3 on a couple of the uphills and then most of the last two km. I need to work this stuff out. I probably could have picked it up a little earlier, but I was afraid of going out too quickly. there was a girl in front of me (I think she was either relay or duathlon?) that I was trying to catch and I know that if I started to pick it up a lttle earlier I wouldn't have had a problem.

within the first km, I knew it would be a painful run, the tounge of my shoes were rubbing my skin on the inside of both feet. I just put the elastic laces into these shoes and hadn't run in them yet. I think they were too loose? at the finish I took off my shoes and both feet were a bloody mess on the tops of them.
What would you do differently?:

put socks on in t1 or t2!

maybe pick up the pace a littler earlier?
Post race
Warm down:

walk back to transition and pack up

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I would like to lose a few pounds. if I could drop 10 pounds the hills on the bike would be easier and my run would be faster

Event comments:

trisport canada puts on a good race

HR was elevated for first 5 km or so, but I once I got settled into the bike, it was mostly in zone 2 right where I wanted it to be. on some of the long downhills it went down into zone 1, but then on the uphills it would go into zone 3

Course: hilly run (nothing too long, but never flat) through the conservation area to out and back sections to get up distance. I swear when I did this race before the run was short, but I think it was the right distance today. GPS measured it 80 m short, but that could easily be a calibration issue.

Great job for the first of the year!!  - sucks about the rubbing on your shoes which also happened to friend of mine.

There are some very fast girls in this AG (numbers 4 and 5 are in my swim group) - but you held your own pretty well (and beat my time handily)
