Subject: RE: Ironman 70.3 Steelhead : Official ThreadI rode the bike course this morning and here are a few observations. Somewhere between 8-10 miles on M-63 there is a huge hole that is not marked and not filled in yet. It's about the size of a dinner plate and deep, if you hit it you'll lose a tire and maybe damage a wheel. It's near the bottom of some of the rolling hills but you can see it well in advance if you watch. About 5 miles of CR 376 has been recently chip/sealed and it's bumpy! After the chip/seal the remainder of 376 is pretty bumpy but the good news is that's the worst section of the course. There are a couple more sections of chip/seal but its much more managable. The rest of the back roads are bumpy in spots but otherwise okay. It's a good idea to check your speed when crossing over M-140 (2X), it's been pretty bumpy in years past and that's been a collection point for water bottles and other equipment that falls an unlucky person's bike. Save a little for the last 18 when you make your turn south on Blue Star, some of those hills can be a pain. Good luck to everyone. |
