Pre-race routine:

Woke up at 4am to drive up to the race. Had a large cup of coffee and a power bar.
Event warmup:

short little jog
Swim
  • 28m 59s
  • 1640 yards
  • 01m 46s / 100 yards
Comments:

It was horrible. I started out too fast, it wasn't until halfway through that I got into a smooth stroke. The course was full of seaweed (I felt like I was getting caught up in it). The way back was into the sun so navigation was very difficult. Then someone in the sprint needs help and the "rescue" boat almost runs over me.
What would you do differently?:

NOT GO and if I did I would go out slower!
Transition 1
  • 02m 7s
Comments:

Transition onto the bike was a gravel road. WHY WOULD YOU DO THIS?
Bike
  • 1h 15m 16s
  • 27 miles
  • 21.52 mile/hr
Comments:

Could have ridden faster If I haden't gotten off course and freaked out about it.
What would you do differently?:

Find a race where they have people at turns so I don't miss them!
Transition 2
  • 01m 40s
Comments:

Went okay
Run
  • 55m 44s
  • 6.2 miles
  • 08m 59s  min/mile
Comments:

I suck at running!!!
What would you do differently?:

Get better at running!!!
Post race
Warm down:

ummmmm cold water and a drive home!

What limited your ability to perform faster:

The course was horrible!! I can't run!!!

Event comments:

Stay away from races that Frank from lakegeneva extreme sports puts on!!

I think you're being a little tough on your run abilites. None the less you smashed the bike and swim portions.

Congratulations!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Its been well documented both at the race and here on BT that this was another messed up FDES event. However, that being said, if your bike splits and run split times are accurate, you did very well especially considering all of the additional "anguish" that this course put you participants through. Don't get down on yourself, you don't suck, just the race did!! Find a different RD for your future events (I know that we are). Oh BTW, in case you havent heard, the RD is offering a free OLY event to those who participated in yesterday's OLY and got off course (that is if you want to aggravate yourself with another one of his events)...... Just email him at the LGES website. Best of luck to you in your future events...

LOL...you probably WERE getting stuck in the seaweed, I know I sure was.  Heck, I had to rinse it out of the tub after my shower when I got home!  Your bike time ROCKS, you are right it was sooo unnerving to get lost like that.  I know my bike slowed way down after that.  And even on the course I felt like I had to keep slowing to look for those teeny-tiny arrows.

I think your run time is pretty good actually, esp. after maintaining > 21 mph on the bike!  My run time absolutely sucked for this race too, over a minute/mile slower than my PR.  AAAAARG!

I'm going to take him up on his free race, but I will use it as a training day.
