Subject: Who's listening to the new Rush?

Picked it up last night finally, enjoying it now!  Also, I have tickets to their fall tour for the whole family, my 5 & 8 year olds are probably as excited as I am to see them.

Seems like over the years their music has gotten alot tighter.  I think alot of it probably has to do with Neil's lessons he was able to have with Freddie Gruber.  That, and maybe that's the way things are progressing these days, I think it takes alot more skill to play tight and controlled, solid, than loud and crazy.  Their old stuff was certainly technically difficult, don't get me wrong, but I'm really digging the direction the last few albums have gone.

I've had it in my car CD player since release day on the 12th. (I'm "old school" and want a disc.)

Funny you consider Neil's playing tighter now. I didn't know that was possible. In college I had a friend who claimed he hated Rush because the playing was so technically spot on, it was robotic and inhuman.

I caught the 2011 spring tour and treated myself to a Jersey for $100 - the price of what, 3 tshirts? And I wear it to every gig of any kind now. I'm thinking of catching the fall Philly show.

I am! I first started listening to Rush in 1976 and haven't stopped.  I do think they keep getting better.  Clockwork Angels is pretty heavy stuff.  It is like they are saying 'screw you old age, we are going to keep bringing it.'

Only downside is that I don't see Milwaukee on the fall tour schedule.  Might have to wait until next year.

I didn't think they could outdo Snakes & Arrows but they did.

Tickets purchased for Buffalo show for my oldest daughter and I. It will be approx. 35 years since my first Rush concert, A Farewell to Kings tour at the Orpheum Theater in Boston.

Looks like I will be out of town for a race when they come here.  Hopefully I will get the chance to watch them somewhere else this year.

Sounds like good reviews all around so far.  Maybe it's worth going out to purchase a CD for the first time in ages - oh, wait, that's old school, I better go with vinyl.

AcesFull - 2012-06-18 2:31 PM Bought the album as a download.  The sound is very "Old Rush."  I like it.

Which "old Rush" timeframe - up to "2112", up to "Moving Pictures", or anything after that?

BTW - this is when they got together and were thinking about collaborating again to do this album.  Funny stuff. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zb-MwVUUy3g

I've worn out a 2112 Cassette and a CD.  I did not think I would ever find an album I liked that much.  Clockwork Angels has got a great start.  I have had it on my ipod nonstop for about 3 days.

The music is amazing.  I have got to find a place to see them in concert the last time they came through I was down with the worst flu ever and had to sell my tickets.

Man I'm so out of touch! Chicago radio is the worst!!! There are no stations playing anything new.

I'll have to check this out. I have loved Rush ever since I first heard them in high school. First ever concert was Signals tour. Saw them for Snakes & Arrows and they were still superb. Best trio ever.

I might have to give this a listen. They lost me with the synthesizers. Thought about checking out Snakes and Arrows since so many say it's like "old" Rush. I watched "R30" and "Time Machine" on Paladia. First off... OMG... Moving pictures in it's entirety... AWESOME! My favorite album.

But, Lee's vocals finally lost me. He just can't do what he used to... which was polarizing to begin with, but his voice has really lost it. Can't criticize that, age does it to everyone, but it was pretty hard to take.

But it has always been about their playing... so I think I will have to dive back in.

And Rush had a song called "Marathon" on their "Power Windows" album/CD?

Solid album.  I downloaded off of itunes and got the "liner notes" PDF with the lyrics with a little bit of the story the album is trying to tell.

Favorite song right now is "The Anarchist".  What does everyone think of "The Garden"?

Huge Rush fan and will be at the Chicago show.

Last week Neil was on Deep Tracks wiht jim Ladd.  He was doing some intro to each song and reading about it.  He is was telling the story of the boy leaving the farm.  I got to work and had to go inside so I missed most of the show.  Sounds good what I have heard so far

With that Rush, the new Rush is the same as the old Rush.

With THE Rush, they change all the time. I got into them in college, about 91. By then, Moving Pictures was already a classic era, and we had a string of synth heavy stuff like Power Windows and Presto. Honestly, there's not a Rush album I don't like at least in part, and I think their live albums and DVDs (and now even bluray - woo hoo) showcase that very well. From the earliest crunchier stuff through the synth years, and into the current post- Vapor Trails era, there's always something excellent to cull from. Fro me, a running mix has everything from Finding My Way to One Little Victory. That last one is easily the doughboy theme song.
