does anyone think a century 2 weeks before Ironman is too much? I don't plan on hammering it that day and  I will already have 10 centuries in. I seem to recoop from the 100 miles pretty quick. I would like to do the century because it's in my home town. Let me know your thoughts. My taper will start the week before.

If you already have 10 centuries in then you don't need to ride one 2 weeks out. If they have a metric option that would be best.

I prefer a good 100 or so with 6 miles run off the bike about two weeks out...

I only taper the bike for two weeks.

I wouldn't think it would hurt. As long as you don't go too hard.

I don't think that poses an issue physically but... why risk it?  You've probably been training for about six months for one race and if something did happen, you'd be kicking yourself over it.  I wouldn't do it, but then again I also considered wrapping myself in bubble wrap a couple weeks before CdA this year!

Patrick...funny! I know where you are coming from.

I'm not planning on gaining anything from it. I just wanted to do it for the pizza and icecream at the end.lol. Then I can start my strict diet for the next 2 weeks. It's really just something I enjoy so that is really why I wanted to do it (socializing can help as well)

No experience on the issue but I read a lot.  The most common theme I gather is that people try to do too much and don't trust the plan. The major plans have been tested time and time again to come up with the best results.  If the plan says ride 4 hours, ride 4 hours.

Would you rather go in well rested or a week behind on your taper?

No Issues. Good training. For me, most tapers are too little for too long. Two week out I would still do a long ride. One week out - 100Km.

2 Weeks out (plenty of time to recovery), I think that is your answer right there.  This stuff is supposed to be fun after all!
