Swim
Comments: I felt good about this swim-I was nervous initially, b/c I heard jellyfish were everywhere, but I only ran into a couple, and didn't get stung. My friend started in the wave just before me (~4 min) so I was watching her start. I wanted to make top 10 in my age group for the swim, but I didn't push it enough-I probably had a bit more in the tank, but wanted to complete the distance well. I did have a good start, started out at an angle to the first buoy, so I only had to deal with one women in my way. I passed well, except for this one women who was a pain in my butt. I should have just sprinted past her early in the swim because we were swimming about the same pace. She was in my way almost the whole time! After the last buoy, I did speed up to pass her, finally. I don't know why I didn't do that earlier. What would you do differently?: Push it a little more between the first and second buoy. Next year's race-possibly a wetsuit, it's a long race, would it really help?? More strength trng. I think I have a pretty good stroke, just need more strength on the pull. Transition 1
Comments: This was slower than I would have like, but I thought I did a good job, the transition area was long, and I had to run out in my shoes, so that was slow. I don't think I'll master the shoes in the pedals with my current pair of shoes-they have three straps, but someday--I can see how it would help with speed. Bike
Comments: I was happy with this ride-I wanted to average 16.5, and I averaged 16.8/16.9. I thought I kept up a pretty even pace throughout. I sliced my thumb on a barnacle at some point during the swim, and kept feeling something slippery on my shifters. First I thought I'd popped my gel, but then I realized that I was bleeding all over the place. I tried to wipe some of it on my shorts. That did distract me a bit, and probably slowed me down a bit. I also slowed down for probably 1.5-2 minutes to talk with my friend, trying to motivate her. I wonder if I could have averaged 17 mph if I hadn't of slowed down in either case? But, I was still happy with it! What would you do differently?: Add some short sprints to keep up the speed, and move along faster. Transition 2
Comments: Again this was slow...I think I did things okay though. Run
Comments: Well, this sucked. I passed my friend on the bike, and she passed me on the run. She tried to motivate me to keep up with her, but I don't know what was wrong-I could not go any faster. I was playing mental games with myself, being way too negative, thinking about how it it was, blah, blah. I've got to get over it!I'm disappointed that I couldn't even find the motivation to keep up with my friend. What would you do differently?: Run more, more and more. Post race
Warm down: Walked through crowd, got a few drinks, stopped at the medical tent to get my finger cleaned, and then packed up to head to the after party. What limited your ability to perform faster: The run, the run, the run. Last updated: 2006-05-05 12:00 AM

Got up around 5:00, ate oatmeal w/bananna and half pb bagel on way to race. Listened to some peppy music.
I wasn't as nervous befrore this race as I have been in the past. I think that helped a bit.
Got on bike for a few minutes, checked shifting, etc. Wanted to take a practice swim, but water was a little chilly-not bad, but I didn't want to get cold, since I had to wait 45 minutes for my start. So, just a quick spin on the bike
