Comments:

The swim was relaxing and enjoyable. After rounding the bouy the wind had picked up and there was some chop. The sun was also in out eyes but they had a red line / rope below the bouys that you could follow. Not bad.
What would you do differently?:

Wet suit cut into my neck. Fix that.

Comments:

I drank a dixie cup of heed at almost every aid station. I was concerned with my quads (inside). Wasn't sure if it was fatigue or elctrolytes. We finished but it was a slow run.
Post race
Warm down:

Just walk

What limited your ability to perform faster:

My trianing was cut short do to a race cancellation. But I am still happy with my results. The goal was to finish and I did that with out walking even if I was slow.

Event comments:

It was unfortunate that the race that I was planning to do on Aug 5 here in Portland OR was cancelled but this was a memorable event.

Congrats on finishing!  It was my first HIM and a pretty challenging swim and bike course. I was in the opposite situation--racing the HIM a month later than planned after the PacCrest course was shortened due to snow. Also found the swim rather choppy--I was fairly far up front in the first wave, the guys I was drafting off slowed a lot after the buoy, and I ended up whacking thru the chop by myself for most of the last 1000m.  On the plus side I never had to look up as I had the line to myself--actually collided with a buoy once though! Definitely got a workout on that bike course. Overall it was a beautiful course but challenging and glad I was a little over-trained rather than undertrained. Sorry about the Portland race--which one was that?

Sorry its been awhile, I just so your post. The event that was cancelled was Stumptown. It should have been a fairly flat and fast course. It was canceled and Chelan was what was available. Afterthought, I'm glad that it worked out that way.
