Guess I'm the spoiler for this thread...but, I don't need a reminder of what I did (I know it) and I don't care if strangers know I did it. It's a "to each his own" kind of thing. Things that are important to me get tattooed on me...except my husband, because I'm superstitious about that one. |

I'd be much more inclined to work through a sleeve of bright orchids, colors and designs. Don't know why I feel the way I do about the M-Dot tattoo (on myself). Overall I love looking at tattoos on other people. Almost everyone I train with that has done an IM has the M-Dot - heck, we even have the tattoo artist on our team. They were disappointed that I didn't want one. As for your husband - I think you're wise to not jinx it |

I feel same way IF/WHEN I do one. |

Guess I'm the spoiler for this thread...but, I don't need a reminder of what I did (I know it) and I don't care if strangers know I did it. I'm heavily inked already, so when I go 140.6 it seems weird if I don't. But, there's no way I'm doing an mdot on my calf. I think it will probably only be visible with a shirt off, so it's less about who else sees it, and more about being a part of me. And it will be a transformation-oriented piece of art. I plan to be sued by pillsbury and marvel comics, not wtc. Besides, those of us who want everyone to know what we did have a much more efficient tool - constant facebook posts and blogging. I sooooo resemble that, I can't possibly justify putting it in pink or red font. |

Expert 836 | Subject: RE: IM Tattoo Location......why the calf An IM is a great accomplishment, so if you want the tat, go for it. I may get one someday, however, they create an event longer, tougher, etc than the current IM distance and, perhaps that event will be held with more regard and have a cool logo that I like more than the MDot. I dont have time to currently train for an IM, so probably never would for the longer, tougher event. I may stare at their tats occasionally. The end. |

You thought it was a joke? I guess you've never participated in any triathlons. I knew M-dot tattoos were real after my very first... |

Extreme Veteran 345 Westfield, In | Subject: RE: IM Tattoo Location......why the calf I love it on how some people react when this question comes up. I always look at if you/anyone wants to get something tattooed on their body go for it. Its their money and time. I just always wanted mine on my right calf. Cant say I really know why that is just where I wanted it. I cant say that I have ever looked at what someone else is wearing or riding and that gave me motivation to pass them. So if my tattoo does that for someone else I would find it a little odd but hey good for them and glad I could help. |

Veteran 784 | Subject: RE: IM Tattoo Location......why the calf Ok I think some of us are going off topic the question was why do people get the IM tattoo on there calf? is there a story behind getting the IM on the calf, not if one should get a tattoo or not...just thought I would clarify for some......carry on. |

Well, to be fair, I think that question was thoroughly answered. (It's where other racers look for AG info.) Now we're just continuing with the inevitable slide into chaos that results from any mention of an MDot tattoo thread. I'm tempted, btw, to get a tattoo of the logo for International Harvester. It looks a LOT like the Mdot and has been around far longer. It would certainly cause many double takes. |

I talked to a guy that had one, on his right calf, and he more or less said, that's where everyone gets them. My plan is on my right sholder blade or somewhere up there.

As was I
By the way, I'm getting mine on my shin...I know no one will see it as I'm getting passed, but I think shin tattoos are cool. |

Expert 836 | Subject: RE: IM Tattoo Location......why the calf Right Jorgito. I dont want one on my calf bc it would first have to be shaved their due to the fur. I am not sure yet if shaving is acceptable in the triathlon community. I prefer the shoulder or back personally. |

Using the logo of the bigger event, design a monster that's devouring the MDot. Maybe something like the cover art for the original Jaws. |

Extreme Veteran 377 Ogallala, Nebraska | Subject: RE: IM Tattoo Location......why the calf I haven't done an IM yet but I got a tattoo of the swimmer, biker and runner on my right calf, in a circular pattern. There is plenty of room for an MDot in the middle after I complete it. The reasons I chose the calf: I needed to make sure my ink could be covered for work and I have a 26.2 tattoo under a mountain on my left calf after my 1st marathon in Denver. I never really thought about "where everyone else had them" or what is the "appropriate" place for one. |
