Blueraiderzone - 2012-08-21 1:27 PM They are leaving the Half bike course the same, correct? I plan to ride it Sunday morning and want to make sure I ride the correct course.

Incorrect.  S2F has created a new course.  It has not yet been put out to the public yet.

two questions:

1. Is this event one where you can check your bike the day before?

2. wave start? TT start?

c. it is mostly a trail run right?

James, last yet I did not check my bike the day before. Much smaller race than what you experienced at Branson 70.3. More like a local S2F race. It was a wave start, but they were pretty small waves (again smaller race), the run is not mostly trail, as a matter of fact, it is almost all road or paved trail (green line). There is a little unpaved trail at the end of the green line before the turnaround. Unless they change things up this year I would expect it all to be similar to last year. Hope that helps.

I am leading a group ride this Saturday @ 7:30 from the Riverbluff Park.  This ride will cover the Olympic distance course.  Extra mileage can be added for long course athletes.

I have also heard from a birdie that someone has marked a 'random' 20-21 mile route with bright pink cues.  Sealed   From, Riverbluff park, turn right onto Ashland City Highway, then left onto Little Marrowbone Rd (where the fire station is).  The cues will bring you all the way back to downtown Ashland City (approximately 20 miles).

Andrew....what pace do you plan on riding? Thanks!!

It sometimes varies based on attendance.  This weekend I expect a low turnout so we will probably gather up at the top of the two climbs.  I would say 15-18 mph

can anyone compare it to last years course? It does not look too bad from the map, but I suck at reading maps.

Here is a comparison between 2011 and 2012 Olympic distances:

FYI....this is a new course than what S2F shared with me 2 weeks ago (rolls eyes).  So if you ride up there, don't follow the pink cues if you want to ride the course.

Looks easier to me.  Flat (TN Flat...), 1 good climb, flat, then wicked downhill into T2.  Not bad.  Gonna roll more then it appears I bet, but not bad for TN.

PS - on map my ride that climb is about 1.7 miles long and is only listed as a CAT 5 climb, last years had 3-5 climbs that were that bad.  Would not be surpprised if people were 5-10 mins faster this year.

They have changed the start time for the Olympic distance (actually all three start times have been changed).

The start time for the Olympic distance is now 7:45AM

Great job noticing the start time change, that is awesome!!  Was wondering why it was starting so late.

This is going to be a very fun race race this year, look forward to the new bike course!

Not sure how much I trust elevations on mapmyride (or my Garmin for that matter), but what was the posted elevation gain for last year's HIM ride that was so bad? 1200 ft over 56 miles doesn't sound like much.

I've been getting ready for Leadman Tri in Bend. If this thing is only 1200ft total I'm more than ready. Did close to 6000 at Hot 100. Good luck everyone. Lets hope for cool weather. or at least less humidity.

Looks like you will get cooler weather but possible thunderstorms and likely very humid.  I've held off registering until tomorrow and I see the latest weather forecast.  What is the standard when chance of thunderstorms?  Do they change it to a duathlon?  Cancel altogether?  Or only change if there are storms in the area at swim start time?  I realize the cost of putting on the event is a sunk cost for the race director and there are no refunds.  I just hate risking it when I haven't signed up yet.

It will not rain, it will not rain, it will not rain...  it's going to rain Yell

The good news is, it won't be hot... but it is going to rain. Rain never killed anybody, I did an entire Ironman in the rain. Just crossing my fingers it is not raining so hard they cancel the swim (or worse, make it a duathlon) or lightning, which will cancel the entire event.

I've been debating a last-minute registration but think I will sit this one out.  I hope the weather holds off for you all.  If the forecast didn't call for thunderstorms, I'd do it.  I just don't want to risk a cancellation.

Good luck and safe racing to all.

Depends on how late they have permission to close the roads (if at all).

If it's raining, I'll be stopping after the swim portion (providing it's not lightning and the swim in cancelled). I have a big A race (Branson 70.3) coming up in 2 weeks (Sept 23rd), and I don't want to risk a bike crash on wet/slick roads....but I do want the open water swim practice.
