Pre-race routine:

For breakfast,. I enjoyed oatmeal with vermont maple syrup. I also had a dunkin donuts med coffee (tradition) and a donut.
Event warmup:

Not much... a bit of stretching
Bike
  • 8h 25m

Comments:

I rode the first half of the race very slowly. In fact when I stopped for lunch, there were only 5 people behind me. However, I really pushed the pace the 2nd half of the race.

The weather changed drastically during the course of the day. It started out sunny and warm - around 2 is started drizzling. By 3 it was pouring.

I'm making progress in my gear changes. I managed to remember to shift down and up to avoid having chain in big and little gear at the same time.

Rain sucks - and man did it rain. I was able to skip post race shower simply by standing outside in the rain.
What would you do differently?:

For my next race I really need to work on my speed.
Post race
Warm down:

Zero Warmdown. I "showered" in the rain. I also enjoyed a few delicious Harpoon products.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I spent a lot of time improving my ability to get up the hills but I didn't focus enough on speed

Event comments:

This race was a lot of fun but it's not for everyone. At several poinsts during the day - I was in danger of getting picked up by the SAG wagon because I had decided to go slow. But even when I picked up the pace, I always hit drink stations when they were closing down and there wasn't enough support had I needed the help.

Wind: Headwind
Course: For a good chunk of the ride - I rode into the wind as I headed south. The 115 mile course started in Williston, VT and ended in Winsor, VT. While there was 4,000 feet, the hills weren't steep just long. There were 4 main hills and some of the downhills were a lot of fun to ride down. Pretty course.

Any ride with Harpoon in the title is a good ride!

I hadn't heard of this one.  But I did the Brewery to Brewery in '02 and '03.  Harpoon is yummy stuff....I miss it.

I miss the Dunkin Donuts coffee too.

Good ride!

Brewery 2 Brewery - from what I've heard - that's pretty hard core!   I'm a huge fan of Harpoon - they have such a diverse lineup of beers these days.  Hope you get some Dunkin' soon!

Just what I was thinking - Harpoon makes some good beer!  I didn't know they had a ride.  That's what I get for living in the south.
