Swim
Comments: I was anxious about the Gulf swim and wave start but had a very solid swim. Not a great time but I feel good about my swim overall as I never became anxious or uncomfortable. Had to work out through a few breakers on the way to first buoy. On long leg I got off course a good bit and that cost me some time. Consistent effort with solid pace throughout. What would you do differently?: Should have sighted more. I kind of got in a groove and just "forgot" to sight for awhile. Transition 1
Comments: No problems. Everything went as planned. Bike
Comments: This is a fast course...but my computer had it at 19.5 which would work out more in the 25.5mph range. Very little elevation change. My wave was 2nd to last so it seemed I was always accelerating trying to pass a rider or group of riders. Probably helped me push my pace. Course got really crowded over the last 3-4 miles so I eased up a bit which probably helped my run. Felt comfortable throughout. AP232/NP236 IF.88 What would you do differently?: Nothing. Great bike split for me. Surprised myself Transition 2
Run
Comments: Tried to start easy and work into the run. First 3 miles were around 7:12/7:05/7:02 and just pushed what was left for the last mile. Took a quick gel and drink at the turnaround, dumped water on my head a couple of times to keep cool. What would you do differently?: Nothing...felt like I managed my run well. Always tough to properly pace the run in the heat/humidity but this was better than expected. Post race
Warm down: Short cool down run with friends. Drank plenty of water and visited with friends/teammates. Event comments: Great race! Always fun to do a race where lots of friends are racing. Race was well done and it is a beautiful venue on the Gulf. Plenty of food post race and party at the pool for awards was fun. Last updated: 2012-07-29 12:00 AM
