It's almost as though we need to brand people with warning labels....

For one, I wouldn't be that close, and for a second, I don't think I'd be laughing at seeing one of my kids (if it's his dad at the end) nearly being trampled by a 1000lb+ bison.

EDIT: video isn't showing embedded on my end: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=piUhzxsA3bU&feature=player_embedded

Yep, saw that last night.  Stupid parents is an understatement.

I do have to say I was very impressed with the kids instinct and speed.  I could see somebody curdling in a ball when faced with that situation but he kept his witts and probably could have bean Usain Bolt at that moment in time.

My brother worked at Yellowstone for a season back about 15 years ago, and he said things like that are very common. The term for people like that is "touridiots". They put their kids on the back of a bison to get a picture of the kid "riding" the animal, then freak-out when the animal starts walking away. They tease the animals, not understanding that as soon as it sees you as a threat, it'll attack.

This group was very lucky that nobody was hurt. "nervous laughter", maybe, but coaxing the kids to get closer because "it's friendly" isn't wise. Bison are awesome animals, but the only time I intentionally get close to one is when I cut into its medium-rare flesh!

What sickens me is the parent just standing there with the arm stretch. If that was my son I would have run after the Bison yelling and screaming, trying to get his attention. Rather me get trampled than him.

It doesn't take a bison expert to tell the bison was agitated and putting it's head down in a bluff charge pose.  I'm surprised it was that patient.
