Bike
Comments: This is my home course. I wasn't really training properly for a tri this year but had been riding this summer trying to get into bike shape. Couple of us decided to do the relay. Swim was canceled, so Harv was off the hook. Ken ran, I biked, Ken ran again. It was really crowded for me so I couldn't go full bore. There were a lot of people to get by so my power took a hit. Had to coast quite a bit but it was a solid effort. I've actually ridden in at higher wattage just in training and with a lower HR but not as fast...good aero setup for me. Lot of little turns and stuff. First half is kind of uphill. It's tough to go much faster safely here. Maybe could have shaved 30" without the traffic? Strava http://app.strava.com/rides/21248927 According to Garmin and Strava I was a little over 25mph. I had the fastest bike split. My goal is to take my bike fitness into the winter and start sharpening the run and swim up for a run at 70.3 distance next year. Usual suspects at the front. Caught up with Ellis and Ingalls and waited around for our award. It is fun. I'm on the Madison Jaycees who organizes this event and all the proceeds go to charity. Good organization and I know a lot of people involved. What would you do differently?: Just done the race myself and start in the elite wave. That way on the bike I wouldn't have as many people to get by. 5th wave means I had to pass about 300 people on tiny back roads. Oh, I also got fat this summer and raced this at 190lbs. If I was 175-180 that would have been preferable ;) It's a "development" year for me :) Transition 2
